About Us

So who are these kids, anyways, these Academical Village People?

Great. We thought you’d never ask.

AVP is an all-male a-cappella performance group founded in 1993 by a group of guys who thought, “well, this a-cappella stuff is pretty sweet, but let’s see if can’t have a little more fun with it.” And yep, we sure could. AVP combines top-class singing and bumping vocal percussion with rock-star performance technique and endless enthusiasm. This is NOT your grandfather’s a-cappella group. Whether we’re stage diving, thunder-clapping, showing off our fly dance moves, or really just flailing around, you can be sure of one thing: we’re having a whole heck of a lot of fun, and we hope you are, too. Who says a-cappella can’t be an interactive event? If we can’t get you out of your seat, then we’re not rocking hard enough.

AVP Performing

We take our name from Thomas Jefferson’s Academical Village at the center of our very own University of Virginia in beautiful Charlottesville. Oh yeah, and also that concept disco group from the 70’s, although they have yet to work with us on an album (total divas). You’ll see us around grounds, sporting our garage shirts or our track jackets, but we’re not very good at staying local; AVP has rocked audiences across the United States and beyond, touring Hawaii, Barcelona, London, and anywhere else where people are looking to have a good time.

What do we sing? A little bit of everything, from R&B and hip-hop to country and classic rock. So check us out! If you want to watch us throw down, AVP-style, check out our calendar for upcoming events; if you want in on the whole AVexperience, check out our auditions page and contact a group member.
