Born in Sant Gregori (Girončs) on 12 September 1958. She is married and has two children.
She was a medical intern at the University of Barcelona. She was an intern at the Hospital Josep Trueta in Girona from 1981 to 1990. Member of the AIDS Unit. She was involved in various associations related to the fight against AIDS.
She was a town councillor for Sant Gregori between 1982 and 1990. She was a county councillor for the Girončs during the same period.
She has been a deputy in the Parliament of Catalonia since 1995. She was president of the Social Policy Committee between 1996 and 1999. Between 1999 and 2003 she was spokesperson for Social Policy in the Parliament of Catalonia for the PSC and has been minister of Health for the Generalitat of Catalonia since 2003.
She became first secretary of the PSC in the Girona counties in the year 2000.
