Orissa is
fortunate in having a saint-poet like Gangadhar and it is
significant that he was born among Weavers. The Weavers of Sambalpur
are famed far and wide for the beauty and originality of their
designs and for their great skill. Gangadhar Meher worked with words
and thoughts in the same masterly fashion. He is one of whom the
Weavers themselves, Orissa, India and the world may well be proud.

I
am proud that I belong to Barpali, where the great poet Gangadhar
was born. Barpali is known to the countryman for two things:
immortal poet Gangadhar Meher and age old traditional weaving of
famous tie & dye art. My late father Silpaguru Padmashree Kunja
Bihari Meher was a great adminer of the poet. I think The great
contribution of my father to Bandha art is the weaving of portrait
of the great poet on cloth. This wall hanging has been considered as
an outstanding creation and be-filling tribute to Swabhab kabi. This
classic piece has now been treasured in kalabharati Tie & Dye Art
Museum, Barpali.

The web-site on poet Gangadhar Meher launched by
Gangadhar Smruti Sadan, Barpali will definitely universally
accepted. His literary achievements will be benificial to the
writers, researchers and readers. Persons renable to have a look on
his manuscripts retensils and life history written by his son
Kaviputra Bhagaban Meher will be avalible in the site.. I sincerely
wish its complete success.
