Spot Begins distribution of KARI's Kompsat

Monday 16 Jul 2007

The Korean Aerospace Research Institute and Spot Image in France have begun commercial distribution of image data from KARI's Kompsat-2 satellite.

Spot Image has exclusive distribution rights to the imagery, except for customers in Korea, the US and the Middle East.

KARI developed the program to acquire one metre imagery to cover needs in mapping, urban planning and hazard management.

The deal is part of a strategy by Spot to position itself as a one-stop-shop for all types of data. It has a number of optical and radar sources available, at resolutions from one metre to a kilometre.

Just as importantly, it has a string of offices -- in France, Australia, Brazil, China, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and the US -- and a worldwide network of distributors and downstations.
