Captain America offered to Chris Evans

Categories: Movies, News

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Chris Evans has officially been offered the role of Captain America. If the Fantastic Four actor were to accept the role, he would sign on for up to three Captain America movies, as well as The Avengers films. Evans might have a conflict, though, according to Hollywood Reporter: The actor is scheduled to shoot What’s Your Number? with Anna Faris this summer at the same time that America is poised to begin filming. Marvel, the studio behind the film, is not commenting.

So let me get this straight, the Human Torch is going to play Cap? I guess Marvel has given up on the Fantastic Four rights ever coming home.

    • Ken

Chris Evans was the worst-acted and most lightweight part of the Fantastic Four movies, and he will never be able to carry off Captain America with any gravity. This is a sad, sad day in the Marvel Universe. Ryan McPartlin would have nailed the role.

      • KS

I got all excited when I saw the name Chris, and then I realized it was followed by Evans, not Pine. Now I’m feeling kind of blah about it all.

      • me

A sad sad day is when someone actually extols the acting virtues of…Ryan McPartlin.

      • Wade

What are you talking about???? He is the only part of Fantastic four that was OK. What did you prefer Jessica Alba or whoever the hell played Reed Richards? I think he is the best choice given who they were offering it to.

YOU CANNOT HERO DOUBLE DIP – its just plain wrong. Personally, I think they should have gone with someone less well known.

      • Maureen

@KS: Chris Pine as Captain America? Why didn’t I think of that? That would have been too perfect!

      • UGH

Watch Chris in the movie Sunshine and you might change your mind.

      • petuniafromhell

I think Evans did a good job in Street Kings…better than Keanu..well, a popsicle stick is better than Keanu…

      • Johnification

Are we actually dissing Ryan McPartlin? Compare his performance as Captain Awesome with his guest turn on Mad Men and then tell me the man isn’t incredibly versatile (makes you realize how much he “puts on” for Chuck).

      • XSEDrake

Ken, as a longtime Marvel fan myself, I could not possibly disagree with you more. Evans was the only actor in the FF movies who nailed his role, and he is a far better choice to play Cap than Channing Tatum, Ryan Phillipe or many of the other guys they were looking at. He’s also got the physical stature to pull this off. I think this is a great choice.

      • patrick

@Growing pains fan ryan reynolds has triple dipped and its been fine so far. Green Lantern, Deadpool, and hannibal king.

      • Jamal

It should be an African American playing Captain like Tracy Morgan or Ice Cube.

      • flower

Don’t diss Ioan Gruffudd. He is a great actor. Fantastic Four was a mistake. It was written as a joke movie. For those of us who have followed Ioan through the Emmy-winning Horatio Hornblower series, Forsyte Saga, Amazing Grace, King Arthur, etc., him being in FF was sad and just a waste of his talent.

      • Yoga_Girl

I agree – he was excellent in Sunshine… that was a great weird underrated movie. Might be his best part yet…

      • jen

I think Chris Evans would be a great Cap but…..DOUBLE DIPPING!!!!! I hate it, I hate the fact that Ryan renolds is Deadpool & GL and personally feel he should be scrapped as Deadpool & just be GL and as much as I like Chris Evans to me he will always be Johnny Storm cause he was so good at him…hate hate hate double dipping so give it to Ryan Phillipe or dod a new Fan four movie with a new Johnny Storm!

      • Dan

        But he’s already Captain Awesome.

      • Erin

I’m not a fan of double-dipping either. Once your cast as one iconic comic book superhero – that should be it.

      • Mcfly

Are you joking? Jessica Alba was horrible. Very nice eye candy but her acting was terrible. It was more like not-acting. Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis rocked those movies.

      • Mcfly

Right Jamal, Forget the 70 year history of the character and make him black. I think they should make Luke Cage: Hero for Hire white.

  • Moe

    • Nicotine

My sentiments exactly! Chris Evans was good as The Human Torch because of his laissez-faire attitude, but Cap is straight-laced. Probably moreso than Superman. You need a serious demeanor to play Steve Rogers.

Agree, I threw up a little when reading this. The Cap movies will suck, these movies require someone who looks somewhat world weary

    • tvfan

I love my super heros, he does come across as a worthy choice.

    • harry

      why God why?

    • rerun

Funny, i remember these same EXACT reactions when Heath Ledger got the Joker role. Everyone gets upset when a “prettyboy” gets the role. Back off and see what he does.

      • Celia

But Heath Ledger could actually ACT!!
        This guy can not!

  • darclyte

Not a bad choice. They tested a number of people so he must have deserved to get it. Kudos to him, and I can’t wait to see what they do with Captain America.

    • RyRyNYC

lol… Alba also tested for Sue… do you think she deserved it?

  • Jose

What a stupid casting choice, whatever happened to casting an unknown?

    • Kacey

You want to bank role that hot shot? Evans puts as-ses in seats and that all that matters. Evans is great. Pattinson would have been inspired.

      • mari

        hmmm…pattinson…captain america…no.

Pattinson? HE CANNOT ACT…AT ALL. Watch the review of ‘Remember Me’ on AT THE MOVIES, A.O. Scott of the NY Times correctly pointed out that the guy cannot act and to prove showed an excerpt of th movie where he confronts his father in a board room meeting. The guy hams it up, he is just a pretty face, nothing more.

      • petuniafromhell

Pattinson…please, we can all look forward to when Breaking Down comes out and he’s career is over!!!!

      • k

If you put Pattinson in that role it would be like sticking a gun to my nuts and waiting 2 hours to pull the trigger

      • KFed

I agree Growing Pains Fan – how about Kirk Cameron? *COUGH*

      • Celia

        @k: Lmfao!

    • Aliana

Umm… casting an unknown didn’t work so well for Superman with Brandon Routh. Evans isn’t that great, but he’s a known name… he’ll be sure to draw teen boys and fan girls.

      • Dan

But it worked with Chris Reeve.

      • Celia

I think Ryan Reynolds would’ve been great, but he’s already Deadpool and the Green Latern.

  • Lex Luther

Excellent. Chris was the best thing about those movies and i gotta say compared to everyone else they listed in the casting rumors he was the best choice.

    • R.J. MacReady

      Reb Brown is unavailable?

      • Dan

        Or Matt Salenger

  • dudepool

He WAS the best thing about FF, and Channing was the only other person who sounded decent, but I can’t see him playing a straight laced Captain America.

Channing sounds decent? All the comments from prior articles and various websites like Aint it cool had commenters slamming both actors as poor choices – either all these people posting positive things work for the producers of the movie or are pre-pubescent girls basing their opinions on a crush.

  • The Ghost of JD Salinger

MY SON SHALL ALWAYS BE THE BEST CAPTAIN AMERICA. What is the sound of Adam Lambert clapping?

  • rebecca

Is it really best for someone to play 2 different superheroes? I think actors should only be allowed to play one superhero. Evans already got his chance. I have nothing against him being Captain America, I just think actors should only be one superhero. It makes it less confusing for some people!

    • um..

      um…a little secret…he’s not really a superhero..he’s an ACTOR!! superhero’s don’t exist!
therefore relieving you of any confusion.

    • J.

Well, seeing as how the Fantastic Four movies were forgettable, I don’t think that will be too hard for audiences.

Rebecca: Ryan Reynolds was Deadpool in the Wolverine movie — and he’s signed to be Green Lantern too. It’s not a problem.

    • Chris P.

      Deadpool is Marvel
      Green Lantern is DC
Two separate universes of comics. They should get one superhero per universe. So im against the Chris Evens as Captain America thing.

      • Karen

        @Chris P.
        Fox Studios comic book movies
        Marvel Studios comic book movies
Two separate universes of comics. I get your point, but Fox seems to hate Marvel canon so much that it’s a different universe altogether. I say give him a chance. He’s a completely different character in the new Tennessee Williams movie. He’s just been typecast in mainstream movies. Don’t forget the brilliance of RDJ. Marvel knows what it’s doing.

      • Chris P.

Thank You for your constructive criticism. I am willing to give him a chance, although I don”t have high hopes. But he’s super hot so I’m willing to give him at least a chance.

  • BG

Not that I don’t like Chris Evans, but this sucks. They were tossing around so many awesome names. What happened to John Krasinski? He would have been amazing.

    • Josie

ehhh…. I love John, but I’m kind of glad they didn’t pick him.

      • Yesenia

That would have been awful casting.

    • Tarc

Krakinski was a ludicrous option. Seriously.

  • TvTroz

RAGGEDT: The Green Lantern is from DC Comics, and Deadpool is from Marvel, two different studios, or “universes”, if you will. They will never meet. On the other hand, if the wanted the fantastic four and captain america to meet, it would be a weird clash of the clones, don’t you think :)

    • SC

Since the franchises are owned by different studios, that isn’t an issue.

  • Ryan

Ryan McPartlin from Chuck would’ve been the best possible choice for an unknown with the presence and acting chops to be able to handle Steve Rogers.

    • Eric

I wish they were casting someone older. I have trouble seeing anyone on their short list ordering around Thor and Iron Man. But since Iron Man was so awesome, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. I understand Evans is an actor, so I can’t say that just because he played a goofball hero he can’t play a straightlaced hero.

  • protoman

    Such a poor Captain America.

  • MJ

    How about Kurt Russell? LOL

    • Big Walt

He’s a little much but why is everyone so set on actors in their 20′s for this role? I wish they had gone 30′s/40′s instead.

      • Celia

Agreed. Brad Pitt would’ve been perfect.

  • yikes

I was hoping for Taylor Lautner

    • Celia

      That’s a hilarious joke.

I think Alexander Skarsgard would’ve been great, but he’s not American.
