The Kendall Award, named in honor of Dr. Edward C. Kendall, is awarded each year in recognition of outstanding research conducted by an individual whose primary appointment is in research. Candidates are postdoctoral fellows or research associates who are within five years of having received their degree, and whose research was completed during the first postdoctoral fellowship.

Candidate Requirements

  • Either an M.D. or Ph.D. degree
  • A postdoctoral research training appointment approved by Mayo Research Committee and a research fellowship or senior research fellowship
  • A current research appointment or have completed the appointment within one year prior to nomination
  • Be within five years of receiving a postgraduate degree
  • Representative work done at Mayo from first postdoctoral fellowship

Research Qualifications

  • Originality of ideas
  • Excellence of planning
  • Execution and recording of research
  • Significance of results
  • Initiative and independent work by the nominee in accomplishing the research

Nomination Process

Faculty members should submit a letter of nomination accompanied by the curriculum vitae and explanatory letters of recommendation from one or more faculty advisors of the nominee. Please note that no distinction will be made in the selection process regarding the source of research funding. Final acceptance for publication of the research is not a prerequisite for consideration for the award.
