Comments
Male Bettas are also called
Siamese Fighting Fish, and they will usually fight
to the death if put in the same bowl, but often
they can live together in a large aquarium. We prefer
that you not use our Siamese Fighting Fish to fight.

Only one Male Betta in a large fish bowl alone or
with a few
Ghost Shrimp, a couple of
Aquatic Snails, and some
Java Ferns or some
Aponogeton plants. We have
noticed that sometimes a Male Betta will attack
and kill Ghost Shrimp, and sometimes Aquatic Snails
will eat Aponogeton plants, but the Aquatic Snails
do not seem to have an appetite for the Java Ferns.
We recommend
keeping a Betta in a fish bowl that will hold at
least one gallon of water. We sell a fish bowl that
will hold 1.5 gallons of water.

Bettas usually do
fine in a temperature range of 65 to 80 degrees
F. But may do best in range of 70 to 75 degrees
F. If the water is cool and your Betta is not eating
enthusiastically, you should move it's fish bowl
to a warmer spot or increase the temperature in
the aquarium. You should
also be sure the temperature doesn't change too
much, too fast. A change of 3 degrees per day usually
doesn't cause stress or disease, but a drop from
75 degrees to 65 degrees in one day would not be
natural or good for a Betta. |

Recommended Diet
Floating Food and Freeze Dried Blood Worms both
available in most places that pet fish are sold.
Bettas are not an active fish, so they don't require
as much oxygen or as much food as energetic active
fish do. Feed
your Betta twice each day. I feed my Bettas in the
morning and in the evening. Be careful
not to feed your Bettas more than they will eat.
Remove uneaten food with a small net after 10 minutes.

I feed
all my Bettas a few Black Worms every other day.

Compatibility
Male Bettas
do best in a large Fish bowl with a few Ghost Shrimp
and some live plants as mentioned above. Usually
White Clouds are compatible with Bettas and can
live in a Large Fish Bowl with a Betta, but sometimes
the Betta will chase and annoy the White Clouds,
and very rarely White Clouds have nipped on a Betta.

here for more information about White Clouds.
Males
Bettas can also be kept in
aquariums with
Platies,
Mollies,
Swordtails,
Angel Fish,
Danios,
Gouramis, a school of
Bala Sharks, a school of
Clown Loaches, a group of
Corydoras Catfish, and a
Plecostomus Catfish.

Size
and Life Span
Male Bettas grow to about 3" and live for 2 to 3
years.
Here
is an email comment from Bradley, "How old my Betta
was. My Betta reached 5 years and 7 months before
he died. I kept him by the stove for warmth and
he did great."
