61.6% market share among younger viewers

Germany: 14.69 million people watched the final

An average of 14.69 people in Germany watched the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 yesterday, when Lena took home the trophy. This means a strong average market share of 49.1% among all viewers as well as and even stronger market share of 61.6% among the younger viewers aged between 14 and 49.

These are probably the highest viewing figures in Germany ever, although reliable figures from the very early days of the contest are not available. Previously, the most watched Eurovision Song Contest before has always been reported to be the 1985 one, which was watched by 13.22 million people in West Germany alone.

rost: we've heard you now. Are you finished yet? Or are you going to puke all over this thread all day to tell us all how horrible the show was? Since everyone I talked to abroad LOVED the show. They talk about Serbia 2008 and about Oslo 2010 as the best shows in ages. Russia last year was expensive- that's all we can say about it. Typically russian, expensive, and impressive, but a bit unsympathetic because of the price tag. People ejoyed this show, it made them warm, fuzzy and dancy, and all of Europe danced together. It can't get better than that :)

Least the presenters did not shout during the semis and their English was clear!

If only the finalists voted then the top five would have been:

1.Germany 122

3. Greece 112
4. Turkey 107
5. Azerbaijan and Armenia 106

Figures are pretty low aren't they?!

ESC = Europe's Celebration of MUSIC and SONG ... and it is 55 YEARS STRONG!!!!

Finally ;), a Big 4 country is a ESC winner:
Congratulations to GERMANY'S Lena :) with "Satellite"

Congratulations to two more Big 4 countries --
FRANCE :) and SPAIN :), for their best placing in years, too !!!!!!!!!!!
That can happen when you send good songs!!!!

Oslo :) -- wonderful show !!!!
The interval act with the “share the moment” Flash Mob :) was BRILLIANT
and it --- along with the songs of GREECE (H) and ICELAND :) ---
… blew the roof off Telenor Arena
!!!!!!!!!

BUT that little ...banter ;) with a certain country with a STOLEN name, well....
Was it "rehearsed"? What about those 1+1 ...T-shirts at SF1 ?
Was THAT "deliberate", too ????
Bad call, Norway.-

... Music and Politics do NOT mix!

and THAT ...stunt caused them NOT to QUALIFY from SF1 !!!!!

BY NOT FOLLOWING THE RULES ....

When … MISTAKES happen, things like this can happen, too .... ;)

---- ESC First -- Even with a good song, this a Host Country
that got 20th place in the Final (that is, Norway ... 5th from the ...BOTTOM)
Did Didrik deserve that? No. --- LESSON NO. 1

because

NOBODY APPRECIATED IT ....

when you did NOT … “share the moment” with other ESC Host Countries,
which were conveniently ... skipped ;) … as if they had never happened --

Believe me …

ESC 2005 Kyiv :) ---- ESC 2006 Athens (L) --- ESC 2007 Helsinki :) --- ESC 2008 Belgrade :)

did happen and …(comparably ;)) they were REALLY GREAT SHOWS !!!!!!!!!!

and EUROPE REMEMBERS, too !!! Example: Who did NOT “Feel the Rhythm” ;)
when Finland’s Lordi with “Hard Rock Hallelujah” WON in Greece ??? --- LESSON NO. 2

Oh, by the way, in another interval act ----

MUSIC ..... CHOREOGRAPHY ...... LYRICS
are all GREEK Words and ideas / concepts

since NRK did not ... know( ??? ) where MUSIC originated from ;) ...
--- LESSON NO. 3 … (GREEK-style ;))

Another ESC First -- This one is for SVANTE and NRK.
Thanks to an online LIVE! website stream ( freegossip.GR ;))
we got to see the ALL (SF1 / SF2 / Final) DRESS REHEARSALS
BEFORE THE ACTUAL SHOW .... LESSON NO. 4 (again, Greek-style ;))

I do not have anything else to say except for ...

from the LYRICS of GREECE'S (H) ... ESC 2009 "This is our night"
-- words, that made a … BIG difference to their song, too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, the Turkish ESC outcome of No. 2.... was a COPY … GREEK-style ;) :D :D :D :D
from both a SONG and ARTIST (Sakis Rouvas (L)) that deserved a better result LAST YEAR !!!!!

And, for the record, Hadise was just as much a DISASTER then as Safura was, this year.

although the figures are low compared to the population (15 million v 80 million) but look at the audience share! - 50%, thats a lot for a country like Germany!

Night Editor [45546]
Mon 31 May 2010 15:57:52

The viewing figure in the UK was only 5.5 million, the lowest ever. It had a 24% audience share but was up against the last auditions for Britain's Got Talent on ITV1 and it is also a bank holiday weekend when audience figures are traditionally at their lowest.

Honey Delphia Hellas you were brainstormed by the Greek TV stations which showed Lena's video and called it a "porn" video. Well, for your information it wasn't. I wish you could understand the meaning of the artist and the actor.

Lena is an amazing person, not a bimbo like Saksi Rouvas.

You sound a bit bitter. Sorry for your bad mood.
Btw. I called for Giorgos 3 times. He had a great song and performance. But the majority of votes were received by another song and singer. C'est la vie. I also had to respect the outcome of ESC 2001, 2006, 2008 (songs I don't like very much).
Different people - different tastes. I'm looking forward to ESC 2011 because ............... ESC RULEZ!

It is disusting how ESCTODAY carries on allowing abusive and racist comments to be posted. Come on guys get real will you! We all have our own thoughts and feelings and views but to be rude, arrogant and racist clearly goes against what Eurovision stands for.
Keep your racist and rude comments to yourself regardless of whether you are from the West or the East.

And by the way Christina, I don't think that Mrs Angela Merkel should go as far as to claim, as she did, that Lena should be a role model for the german youth, after seeing some scenes of this very young girl on tv, of Lena being nude in some tv show doing unproper XX scenes on the pool.I would definetely NOT call her a role model for any youth, sorry Mrs Merkel.

Christina@
You should respect different taste, you cannot call people bad loosers because they do not like amaturish Idol acts winning Eurovision .Lena has an awful irritating voice, she moves ungracefully and weird, the song is modern but forgettable , boring, repetiteve and without impact. One of the worst winners ever in Eurovision imo, and I am not happy that this win might open doors for unprofessional amaturish acts with voiceless youngsters who think they are world famous artists and acting as such, with bodyguards and snobbish attitudes. Lena is more fitter for Junior Eurovsion and that is MY opinion. And it is my opinion she was voted by the very young age-ranges, Lena's performance was so amaturish in every way and most forgettable. Pity that the superior and more professional acts were rewarded less then this nonsense from Germany.

GUNEC GULUN.. "Thank you Europe, thank you for believing that we could be the same..."
Is that so? Well do not think so and Europe just proved it.. that's why maNga did not win
And your (lol) "beauty"is just a EPIC failure EVER happened in the history of Eurovision with their 10,000,000$ and fake bets Congratulations... next yeyar better! Lmao :]

Jessy

We were (at least I was not) not expecting to win for sure, but points we got from all over Europe (Ireland,Malta, Albania, Belgium,Spain, Serbia, Slovenia, Romania, Norway, Lithuania, Ireland, Germany, Georgia, France, Finland, Macedonia, Estonia, Denmark, Croatia (12 pts fm Croatia waooaa thank you),Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, FYR Macedonia, Belarus, Albania and B@H) made me think that our boys did stg right (I suggest you watch the performance again) and made me wanna thank Europe. Second place is a real success among such amazing songs. And about Azerbaijan, she sang that extremely hard song like a nightingale and people of Europe (please don't make me list the countries ;) ) rewarded her with their votes (you know you can not buy people's televotes can you?). Again as I said before the competition was really tough and a Top 5 place is a real success.

I once again want to congratulate everybody for those fantastic songs and shows ESPECIALLY LENA :) She really deserved it... :)

I have the feeling the very young ages voted more in masses in the western Europe, ages 15-20, since those age ranges would vote more for Germany's song and those ages would vote more for such an amaturish performer like Lena. She acted and sounded like some Idol audition participant, bad irritating vocals, unprofessional stage presentation.I did not like Satellite as a song, might be modern sounding and has an Amy Winehouse sound which I hate, but it will be a forgettable winner due to the very amaturish presentation, the horrible annoying voice and the amaturish young girl performing it, more suited for Junior Eurovision. Pity since there were at least 20 better songs and stage presentations then Lena's boring song and ackward voice. I don't want Eurovision to go downhill and award such amaturish graceless acts, the girl can't sing, she can't move with grace, the song is forgettable and repetitive without impact. In my book, among the worst winners ever .And a question, why does a 19 year old girl needs bodyguards? Saw scenes on tv she was followed everywhere by bodyguards and refused interviews, what an odd image for such a young girl, I mean she is an unkown girl, not Beyonce, lol.

I think I want LED screens in Germany too - at least they got colours. Just don't overdo the pattern like in Moscow. Or at least something similar to USFO. The background in Oslo wasn't very good and the lights were too bright/cold toned. Also too much use of blue which is typical NRK. I bet Berlin (?) will be much better!

Nice to see the increased interest in Germany, but I wish more adults voted too. Something tells me it's mostly young people, teens. :(

@dimitris calling

what are you doing with the swedish flag on your avatar? :)

I lost a bet vs. 'Patte Linouuu', I told him that Sweden will qualify from Semi2, but he said that Sweden won't qualify and now I must use the Swedish flag as my avatar for a few days! :D If Sweden would qualify then he'd use the Turkish flag as avatar! :D

yesterday 14.7 million Germans watched the final which was a record.

Even if it's a record, it's still too low, don't forget that Germany is a country with many immigrants, and if we'd count them, too, then we know, that Eurovision isn't interested among the German ppl so much! :/

UK figures:
average 5.5m (24%) incl. HD: 5.8m (25.5%)
peak: 7.8m (43.2%) at 23:00

started at 3.7 million, due to a clash with britains got talent (that got 9.6 million) but grew, and after britains got talent ended eurovision was in the 6 million mark

(figures are usually a bit lower during bank holidays which is happening this year :))

but a lot lower than the last 10 years:
2009 - 7.8m (35%) * peak: 9.8m (52%)
2008 - 7.1m (35%) * peak: 9.3m (50%)
2007 - 8.7m (40%) * peak: 10.9m (53%)
2006 - 8.2m (37%) * peak: 10.6m
2005 - 7.9m (39%) * peak: 9.4m
2004 - 8.3m (42%)
2003 - 7.9m (38%) * peak: 10.8m
2002 - 7.8m (36%) * peak: 10.9m (54%)
2001 - 6.9m (37%)
