July Cover Revealed: Infamous 2

In 2009, Sucker Punch Productions released Infamous, a super-powered sandbox game that was a drastic departure from the studio's well-known Sly Cooper franchise. Venturing into new territory paid off for Sucker Punch; the PS3-exclusive Infamous has sold nearly 2 million copies, providing a combination of mobility and electrical powers that makes gamers feel like a true superhero. For Infamous 2, the team hopes to raise the bar even higher. A new look for hero Cole MacGrath is just the first step; a new city, new powers, and a powerful new foe await you in Infamous 2, and you can read all about it our exclusive 10-page story.

After you've satisfied your superhero curiosity, keep flipping those pages to see the issue's line-up of cool features. This month you'll find a column from Irrational Games' Ken Levine, the origins of ClapTrap from Gearbox's hit Borderlands, an interview with Edgar Wright (director of the upcoming movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), and a rundown of bizarre glitches that never made it into finished games.

We've got a ton of previews for big games like Call of Duty: Black Ops, Killzone 3, The Force Unleashed 2, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, and Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep (including an interview with designer Tetsuya Nomura). You can also read reviews of Green Day: Rock Band, UFC Undisputed 2010, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, and the downloadable Joe Danger.

Keep an eye on your mailboxes and store shelves, because the July issue will be there very soon!

  • He looks just a little TOO different than Cole.

    Sounds like an interesting month.

  • wow, not only did they ditch the Cole's original voice actor, it looks like they got rid of his design, too. still gotta get it, though.

  • Another awesome cover, I was actually expecting Infamous 2 to get a cover story sometime this year, it was only a matter of time.  Cool to see that I was right!

  • Ugh. My subscription just HAD to end this month...

  • Yeah I hope cole doesn't look too different, as he was a pretty cool guy in Infamous 1

  • so freaking sweet can not wait

  • Hmm... the people on the street below don't seem to be running or anything... with things on fire and people shooting and helicopter overhead you would think, maybe a little panic?

  • I dunno about this cover. The fire looks weirdly pink, making the background look like some kind of night club, the grit and slums of the first game appears to be gone, and the new design looks a little "too" different from the original Cole. I'll wait for the magazine though, but still news for a sequel to Infamous is great.

  • i like coles new look, i hope he is more of a positive characater this time around. i liked him in the first game but i think a change will be good.

  • Yes I loved the first one and can't wait for the second...

  • The promotional art for the first Infamous looked a lot more interesting than this. The guy in this picture has the electricity thing going, but he doesn't look tough - not at all.

  • YES!!!

  • now if only i had a ps3

  • Wow I don't know that I'm emotionally ready for this yet. Why don't we put this off until next month? I should be ready by then.

  • He looks like a weird combination of David Austin Green and Luke Perry.

And I know they're going for the "just a normal guy" look, but it's a bit *too* normal guy.

Still, I loved the first game, and this one will get me to fire up my PS3 again.  It's beginning to gather dust.

  • Can not wait to shoot some black electricity from my fingers once again:)

  • Looks like Cole got a DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION makeover. o.O

  • Ok, I'm going to do Pros/Cons on this cover because I like to be an overly critical ass sometimes. So here we go:

PRO: I like that the whole color spectrum was used in this piece and I like that the spectrum tapers your focus toward the subject. That's pretty clever. Sucks if you're colorblind.

CON: Cole, sweetie, don't look directly at the camera during the chase scene, please.

PRO: I like the Spanish architecture a lot, reminds me of the French Quarter. Yes, America, the FRENCH Quarter is entirely SPANISH design.

CON: Unless this is a movie set, are these buildings' floor plans really 60' x 5'? There's a pier and a body of water butted up against the back doors!

PRO: Those are some cool pants and some comfy looking shoes. I wouldn't wear them out in public myself but hey, to each his own.

CON: Belts don't go under your armpits, honey. Is momma gonna have to start dressing you herself before she leaves for work in the morning?

PRO: Nice Metallica reference in the subtitle.

CON: It can be assumed that the people standing on top of the awning got there through the upper story window, right? And they chose to go there in order to get a better shot at Cole, correct? Obviously if they're shooting at him then it must be high priority that the man be brought down, wouldn't you agree? But apparently it's not as high a priority as making sure to properly close the windows behind you when exiting onto the awning and before shooting! I know, I'm reaching.

Yeah, I'm doing nothing at work today.
