If you?re waiting for a new album with Matchbox 20 and are really suffering from new, melodic tunes from one of the most classic modern rock bands out there, you can now get a little dose from that in The Gufs latest effort. Actually, this sounds a lot like Rob Thomas and their masterpiece ?Yourself or Someone Like You?, but in a more modern and fresh version. Since 1999,I?ve been a big fan The Gufs (got all their indies) after their very underestimated Arnold Lanni produced ?Holiday From you? album. I can?t understand why the album didn?t sell and that they got dropped just after a few months. It?s in my opinion one of the best rock albums made with a perfect balance of depth and melodic melodies signed Goran Krajl. ?A different Sea? is like HFY, a simple wonderful album and I ain?t that surprised since Goran can?t write a bad song, just listen to his awesome solo debut! Compared to the 1999 album, this is a more straightforward and positive album. It?s more like a ?feel good? story and one guess is that Goran is in a healthy relationship at the moment compared to the Atlantic album when it felt like he was alone and less happy. I?m not even 1% sure of that, but it just how it feels when listening to ?A different Sea?. So if you want a dose of melodic modern rock at its best just buy this album at once! It contains 10 fantastic tunes that won?t disappoint anyone!
P?R?S OPINION ABOUT THE SAME ALBUM:
One of my favorite bands did after seven years a great comeback at the end of last year. The Gufs have been a band that delivered TONS of great penned melodic modern rock (3 independent albums and 2 major before this one) for us in the past with their two major released albums "Collide" (which actually was released as an independent album before Atlantic re-released it) and the Arnold Lanni produced masterpiece "Holiday From You". Their new album came as a little surprise, cause I thought the album split up, but if you read our interview with the band you have the answers why they didn?t... We shall not forget that we got a great soloalbum from their singer Goran inbetween the Gufs albums as well.
So - over to the new album. What about it? Well - what the heck did you expect? We?re talking about The Gufs for gods sake... Nah - to be serious a bit... It is a really really nice piece of album and I?m so damn happy that they?re back and that they have kept their unique sense of melodies and their style somewhere between Goo Goo Dolls, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Tonic, Vertical Horizon and Matchbox 20.
A highly recommended album that easily ends up on my top 5 list over this years best album. 4,5 stars from me...
