Biography/Research

Harry O’Neil is a professor of educational psychology and technology at the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education and a project director at the UCLA National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST). His research interests include the computer-based assessment of workforce readiness, particularly problem-solving and collaboration skills, the teaching and measurement of self-regulation skills, the role of motivation in testing, and the training effectiveness of games. Dr. O’Neil has conducted cross-cultural research in Japan on the role of test anxiety and performance, and in Taiwan and Korea on the role of self-regulation and achievement. In all of these research areas, he is interested in technology applications. He has published extensively. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, a Certified Performance Technologist, and a former member of the Army Science Board and various Defense Science Board task forces. He is editor of the book What Works in Distance Learning: Guidelines, published in 2005 by Information Age Publishing.
