Baseball's 500 Home Run Club

Forty-year-old Gary Sheffield, who signed with the Mets for the major-league minimum $400,000 upon his release by the Tigers late in spring training, hits a pinch-hit solo shot in the seventh inning off Brewers reliever Mitch Stetter Friday night making him the 25th member of the 500-homer club.

At 40 years, 150 days, Sheffield is the fourth-oldest player to hit 500 behind Willie McCovey (40 years, 171 days), Eddie Murray (40, 194) and (Ted Williams 41, 291).
