Advice for College Graduates

With today’s terrible economy, job news is miserable everywhere. It’s no surprise that over the past few years, college graduates each June haven’t been very lucky once they’ve picked up their diplomas and headed out into the real world. They’ve been faced with a tough job market, low salaries and lots of frustration.

Surprisingly, however, the Class of 2008 is stepping out into a great job situation. This is the healthiest job market in three years, with employers planning to hire 16 percent more new college graduates this year than they did last year.

Hiring projections for new graduates are strong across the board - regardless of industry, economic sector, or geographic region. So no matter what your major or where you want to live, you should get a welcome reception if you have good grades and a decent resume.

Even sweeter, more than half of employers say they’ll be offering hiring bonuses to potential new employees to make their deals even more attractive.

Finally, some good news in this recession.

Good luck, graduates. Get out there and sell yourself so soon you’ll hear, “You’re hired!”

I am a life long learner and now face a big challenge. I have been in computer software programming for 20 plus years and have just earned an MBA in Finance. I am looking to gain experience in finance and accounting while still continuing to earn a good wage in a high senior engineering position. I feel very passionate about finance, especially in the area of Mergers and Acquisitions.

I would appreciate any advice.

Mr. Trump, didn't that feel good to write that? It felt good to me, and, it doesn't even apply to me! It's nice to hear some GOOD NEWS for a change. It's such a nice departure from the usual gloom and doom, fear and terror mongering that we have to listen to...day in and day out! I'm a realist, so, I understand the the world isn't a bed of roses, but, even if it were, there would still be plenty of thorns. Even so, a little pain never hurt anyone. People become a bit too complacent if things come too easily to them.

However, right now, when graduates are still green and their entire world is about to change, it's so important to hear such optimistic words, especially from someone like you, Mr. Trump. A little bit of encouragement goes a long way!

If you take the first job that is offered to you, how will you know there isn't another one that is better?
Fear and panic tactics are being used in the "real business world" to 1) grab intelligent, unexperienced
employees that will be paid less money than experienced workers without the benefits and pensions once offered to employees. Loyalty to one company for a lifetime, is not the norm (as it was in my father's generation) and you need to protect your own best interests.2) Keep worthy employees on a "trial run" basis longer, without the benefit of a "signed labor contract." Remember, ALWAYS GET IT IN WRITING. This applies to buying your first car from a relative or neighbor to more complex things, like paid vacations, paid maternity or family emergencies, health insurance (that hopefully doesn't end 30 days later if you are fired, and terms for being paid if you are fired... you'll need money to carry you through until you can find another job.)

Take nothing for granted. Do your homework. (I understand this can be a dirty word right after graduation, but being prepared "is a good thing.") Know the history of the company before you say, "I do." Business is like a marriage, and divorces can be messy, hurtful, and expensive." (Me)

Think of this contract as a pre-nuptial agreement. Only a fool would be without one in this vicious, greedy and uncertain world. Protect yourself and be patient. Most of us will probably have to work for a very long time. The fewer mistakes you make, the better for YOU. The company hiring you may not be around in five years. Who knows?

Whatever you decide to do with your time here on Earth, make sure you enjoy doing it. Your Happiness is a terrible thing to waste.

Go forward and make your mark, and work towards the good of all.

Mr Trump,

I wouldn't speak too soon.
The weather may seem to look good. But the climate sure doesn't.
It is sometimes better to look at the bigger picture.
Jobs for new college grads could be many now, but would these jobs hold up 2 years down the road. I don't know ! It all depends in how long and how deep the US recession will be. If the value of the US Dollar falls, hard work would be worth nothing, and these poor youngsteers may have no where else to run. World economy would depend largely on the US economy. If US falls, so will other economies depending upon it. This is why the US government is trying to slow it down by handing out tax reliefs and small pockets of cash to prevent this from happening. The money will be spent to create more jobs in the country, but if there is no net output by either by international exports or foreign direct investments, the future of the economy will not be brighter.

Mr. Trump, I read that you are still working to get the most amazing golf course in the world built in Scotland. Please let me know if you need an Ambassador! The Scots love me! I met quite a few people from Scotland (their government) at TRUMP TOWER, coincidently. And, threw back some good Scotch at the Scottish Pub (St. Andrews) in Mid-town - lovely people! (back in my drinking days, that is). I do quite well with Europeans, having been married to one. I'm working toward the assistant position for Mr. Combs, but, I would certainly entertain the thought of working for you, in helping you to seal the deal with the people of Aberdeen. Please keep me in mind, sir.

I'm presently working, independently, to mend relations, (one account at a time), between subscribers in NJ, and a certain cable company. I'm doing a great job, if I may say so myself. Just ask Frank Eliason.

My contact information is attached to the above member number.

Thank you,
~E

From my point of view, they should start their own business even though hard to find jobs or founded, but with very little salary. What they should do:
- Find the properties which the owners want to sell
- Find the customers to buy by staring with their friends or people they know
- Get the Commission from the sellers

This advice is for poor people who have no money to start their own business.

Graduating is always challenging as the competition is hot for premium graduate jobs. The best thing graduates can do is to work to differentiate themselves from their peers. Building a strong personal brand that showcases their unique strengths and backing this with a well written resume that evidences their accomplishments in their studies and careers to-date will enhance their opportunities in all markets.

So, now looking back, did that job market prediction pan out? How many were able to keep their jobs? Here, and in Northern IN, last summer was a time of worry. Working in the parks, I encountered many summer gatherings where lay offs were being discussed. In my own immediate family, siblings and children have been affected. It is always interesting to follow the prediction to the reality.

Being a college student is not easy as students also face lots of problems such as financial problem, emotional problems etc. Obama is now eying an overhaul of the educational system, because our educational system is in need of some work. American education has been in need of some quick loans to spruce up their curricula and help our future generations of workers and leaders to achieve better performance in academic fields and also greater competitive qualities in the workforce. The idea is to replace the former testing format with higher standards and more stringent curricula. Let us hope that this is the overhaul that will get the American educational system back on track. For more information read the article entitled "Obama Aims for Another Major Overhaul | Education on the Agenda" in this site: http://personalmoneystore.com/moneyblog/2009/03/10/obama-aims-major-o....
