db-woodside-getty-320.jpgThe CW's upcoming fall show "Hellcats" has tapped the '24' White House Chief of Staff, D.B. Woodside to join the cheerleading squad... Sort of. Of course, Woodside won't actually be playing a cheerleader - though that would be a sight to see.

"Hellcats" revolves around Marti (Aly Michalka), a cynical college student forced to join the cheerleading squad when her unreliable mother drops the ball on her tuition.

Woodside, who fans will also remember from his stint as Principal Robin Wood on "'Buffy the Vampire Slayer," plays Derrick Altman, a "handsome young physician who takes care of the Hellcats cheerleaders."

He's a man's man who is dedicated to his work with the team - and it's no wonder, because these cheerleaders, as you'll see in the pilot, are an aggressive group of athletes. He's also dedicated to his live-in girlfriend, Vanessa. Vanessa, played by "Boston Public's" Sharon Leal, is the Hellcats' coach, and her eye may be wandering off toward Red, a football coach who has yet to be cast.

"Hellcats," produced by "Smallville" star Tom Welling, premieres Wednesday, September 8th at 9 p.m. After "America's Next Top Model."

D.b. Woodside actually ended his run on 24 As the president who didn't finish out his term due to illness.

I have seen on imdb that Ben Browder (Farscape, Stargate SG:1) has been cast as the coach. I hope that holds up cause he is HOT!!!!

Since 24 was cancelled anyway....

I remember DB Woodside from Buffy. He's really cute. I'd check out this show for his role on it alone.

Unfortunately, Ben Browder - the original actor - dropped out of this project right after the shooting of the pilot. That's unfortunate for Hellcats 'cause he's a good actor, although underrated. And a really charismatic one. Because he left the project, Hellcats' producers decided to recast and retool the character. Strangely, it's been a couple of months since, and they're still in the "recasting" stage.
