  • Is canada.com associated with the government of Canada?
  • No. Try this link for the Canadian federal government. This site has extensive links to information about Canada and links to all of Canada's provincial government Web sites.

  • When is the news updated?
  • News is updated as it happens in 12 cities across the canada.com network by editors working in CanWest Interactive newsrooms. The newswire is updated through the day and evening by Canadian Press. Newspaper stories are updated once daily.

  • Why aren't cities from all the provinces and territories included?
  • The canada.com web site is associated with CanWest MediaWorks Publications Inc., a CanWest company which owns newspapers in every Canadian province - except New Brunswick and Manitoba or any of the territories. It also owns the National Post. The stories found in the Pick a City section are from CanWest MediaWorks Publications Inc. as well as from newspapers belonging to associated Canadian newspaper groups. Due to many considerations, including copyright, we are unable to include stories from all Canadian newspapers.

  • How do I contact Customer Support?
  • Customer service representatives are here to help free of charge! Simply send an e-mail to emailsupport@canada.com or visit http://mailinfo.canada.com/support.aspx for a live chat agent (chat requires that you enable pop-ups). If you are a MailPlus or PremiumMail customer and require immediate assistance for upgrade, billing or technical issues contact customer service support at 1-888-778-9962.

  • What if I forget my password?
  • If you come to the login screen and can't remember your password, just click on 'Forgot Your Password?' and you'll be asked for a few pieces of information. Answer these correctly, and you'll be given access to your password.

  • Why doesn't my password work?
  • There are several reasons why you may be getting an "Invalid Password" error message:

    • Set your CAPS LOCK key correctly. Passwords are case sensitive (meaning that "PASSWORD," "PaSsWoRd," and "password" are not equivalent), so be sure to keep this in mind when entering your password.
    • Sign in with the correct user name. If you have forgotten your user name, please contact customer support. Your user name is the first portion of your e-mail address.
    • Delete your cookie files. A cookie is a small piece of information stored by your browser that helps identify you. If your cookie is not being accepted correctly, you will be logged out of your account as soon as you move to a different page. This may be blocking your current ability to log in or stay logged in. To delete your cookies, close all browser windows, find the "cookies" directory, and delete the cookie files inside. As always, make sure that you have selected the proper files before deleting.
    • Clear your browser's cache. At times it's necessary to clear your browser's cache. The cache is the memory your browser uses to store content of the web pages that you visit. Storing that content lets your browser load those same pages more quickly the next time you visit them.
    • If you're still having problems, contact Customer Support to request a new password.
  • How do I change my password or other personal account information?
  • Users who would like to change their password should go to the Forgot Password page and log in. Once inside the user admin area, you may update or change any of your user information.

  • How does this service protect me from unwanted e-mail viruses?
  • canada.com Mail, operated by Velocity Services, Inc., provides a powerful spam filter called SpamAssassin T that works behind the scenes to keep your inbox free of unwanted e-mail viruses.

  • Why do I have to wait for my forum post to go online?
  • canada.com editors read all the posts that we receive and publish online the most interesting items that are likely to prompt further discussion. Unfortunately, not every post will go online. If a message violates our terms and conditions, it will automatically be rejected. Comments to other people's posts are published online immediately without prior review although we reserve the right to remove them if they violate our terms and conditions.

  • What do I do if I see spam or some other inappropriate messages in the forum comments?
  • We encourage you to report any messages that violate our terms and conditions. This includes things such as hate messages, commercial messages, link spam, pornography, harassing messages and so on. There is a report link beneath every comment. If you read something that seems inappropriate, click on this link and it will be flagged for an editor to review.

  • I reported an inappropriate comment, but it's still there?
  • Comments are removed as soon as an editor has determined they have violated our terms and conditions. Depending on the volume of pending messages, this could take a few minutes or a few hours. Please not that we won't remove comments simply because you don't agree with someone's viewpoint.

  • What video and audio formats can I append to my posts?
  • canada.com accepts several multimedia formats, but you are probably best to use commonly-used formats so more people can see or hear your creations. For video, this includes formats such as WMV, AVI and MPEG. For audio, we suggest you use MP3, WAV or AIFF.

  • What's a permalink?
  • It's a permanent URL that you can bookmark in case you want to return to this message thread or pass it on to a friend.
