Student Equity and Talent Management Programmes

The Student Equity programmes form the basis of one of the university's contextual priorities which is embedded in the domain of Transformation. Wits has a moral obligation to pro-actively and systematically address the legacy of apartheid wherever this is reflected within the University. We need to create an enabling and empowering institutional culture that generates a sense of ownership and commitment. We need to ensure greater race and gender representivity in our governance, and among staff and students, as we capitalise fully on the range of the potential available to us. We need to close the gaps in success rates between races.

Targeting Talent students

The Targeting Talent Programme (TTP) aims to increase the academic, social and psychological preparation of academically talented learners from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds for admission to and success at South African selective universities.

Zena Richards and students
We at Wits believe passionately that academic talent is not a function of race, gender, beliefs or origin. We have set ourselves the task of identifying and working with academically gifted kids from modest backgrounds. For those blessed with such talent, socio-economic status should not be an insurmountable barrier and even the sky should not be the limit.
