A second-half surge, with two goals from Steve Howard, saw City dump the Posh in style at London Road tonight.

In the first half, Andy King and, inevitably, DJ Campbell put the visitors in command and after the break,Dany N'Guessan and Howard did the damage with trialist Zlatko Hebib seeing some of the action.

The home side were first to show with a through ball that found its way harmlessly through to Conrad Logan and soon City were on the road forward, a good move seeing Matty Fryatt surge through the middle but goalkeeper Joe Lewis came out to clear.

Next, a good run and shot by N'Guessan saw his effort blocked and in a super break, Bruno Berner sent Dany N'Guessan in on the left for a cross just behind the in-rushing Andy King. Moments later, Matt Oakley headed back towards King and the ball was cleared off his own bar by Ryan Bennett, the heat staying on until Lloyd Dyer was crowded out.

This was a good spell by City and sure enough they went ahead in the 19th minute, somewhat fortunately when a Robbie Neilson cross was spilled by Lewis right onto the head of King who touched the ball home.

Neilson was soon in action at the other end, clearing off the line in a goalmouth scramble after a Posh free-kick but soon City went further ahead.

Neilson found Fryatt in midfield and the striker sent DJ Campbell clear in on the keeper, which gave the in-form marksman his fifth goal in five pre-season games in the 27th minute.

It was not happening at all for Posh, who found the net but saw the effort ruled out, and indeed could have been further behind as, in the closing stages of the half, Fryatt had a shotblocked and Campbell's follow-up was brilliantly tipped over by Lewis.

Posh restarted brightly but early in the second half City increased their lead when Fryatt set up N'Guessan for a super shot which gave the keeper no chance in the 53rd minute.

The home side were still fighting and Logan had to make a great save from a McCann free-kick. Next, an Aaron Davies shot was blocked by Logan and the follow-up from Dave Hibbert rebounded clear off a post.

Both sides rang the changes with several substitutions, including Hebib for Neilson, the newcomer later booked, and in the 81st minute, Howard struck his first, pouncing on a short pass-back to score with a clinical finish.

Posh replied with a McCann free-kick two minutes later for a consolation strike and with the last kick of the game Howard rounded it all off after being set up by good work from Jeff Schlupp.
