Massive Block Of Ice Breaks From Glacier In Greenland

greenland_icebergBoston (HealthKnowItAll) - A massive piece of ice has broken off of a glacier in the country of Greenland, creating one huge iceb3rg.

The block of ice that broke off is said to be 100 square miles in size, absolutely huge to say the very least.

This is the largest iceberg to break off of a glacier in Greenland in almost 50-years, a half of a century!

The iceberg broke off of the Petermann Glacier in Greenland, located on the northwestern coast of the country.

This could create a future problem for ships as the fear is that the iceberg will be able to make it out into the waters between Canada and Greenland.

Many are hoping that the iceberg just gets frozen in the water over the winter months before it is able to get that far.

This is nothing new for this particular glacier, as it has lost quite a bit of ice over the years.

To put the size of this iceberg into perspective, there is enough fresh water in its makeup for a country to live off of for months, even a country the size of the U.S.
