Sen. Barack Obama may not have won the Democratic nomination for the presidency yet, but his bid for higher office has netted one of his most vocal supporters, will.i.am, a Barack_obama_william_webbyWebby Award as artist of the year. The Black Eyed Peas singer created the "Yes We Can" video that went viral as soon as it hit the Web in February, generating more than 17 million hits.

Among the other winners of the 12th annual Webby Awards are laffmeister Stephen Colbert, honored as person of the year, and director Michel Gondry ("Be Kind Rewind") who is being feted as film and video person of the year.

The awards celebrate both the choices of the 550 member judging academy as well as the public. While the two groups often agreed, they did differ on viral video, with the people going for "Chocolate Rain" while the panel picked "Here Comes Another Bubble."
