Madden NFL as a teaching tool?
Finally, a multiplayer trailer.
Did Blizzard do it again?
It appears Microsoft has a challenger for Sony's previously announced bare-knuckle motion controlled brawler, The Fight: Lights Out. Ubisoft announced today it is developing Fighters Uncaged exclusively for Kinect on the Xbox 360. Read More »
In true Valve style, the developer issued an irreverant press release in June to announce the sequel to its highly anticipated teleportation puzzler, Portal 2, had been bumped from its scheduled fall release to sometime in 2011. Today, with much less fanfare (and humor) we learn that sometime is in February. Read More »
Activision is dubbing it the "ultimate set list" for plastic guitar aficionados. We'll let you be the judge. The publisher revealed today the 90-plus tracks that will appear in Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. Read More »
The already deep multiplayer experience in Guerrilla Games' sci-fi shooter is getting cranked up a few notches in Killzone 3. How? We'll let the mechs and machine-gun mounted jet packs in this multiplayer gameplay video do the talking. See More »
On the downside of its popularity since the third game in the franchise captured the hearts and minds of fantasy turn-based strategy gamers in 2000, Ubisoft is hoping to rekindle the Heroes of Might & Magic fire. The publisher announced at Gamescom that Might & Magic Heroes VI is now in development. Read More »
Blizzard's last World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, sold 2.8 million copies in its first 24 hours of release -- a PC record. The developer is once again expecting big things for its latest expansion, and it's putting big things into its Cataclysm Collector's Edition. Read More »
Three years ago, nobody knew who Felicia Day was, except, perhaps, as that other redhead in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But what a difference a couple of YouTube videos can make.
Day is now the writer, producer, and star of The Guild, a comedic web series chronicling the misadventures -- online and off -- of players of a fictional massively multiplayer online role-playing game. In the three years since its debut, The Guild has scored over 46 million YouTube views, as well as juicy distribution deals with Microsoft and Netflix, and spawned two iTunes-topping music videos -- and even a comic book from Dark Horse. But best of all, says Day, is that "we're still making the show that I want to make." Read More »
Storing games, movies, music, and all things digital on your PlayStation 3 just got easier. Sony announced during its Gamescom presser today that a new larger storage capacity PS3 model is shipping to retailers as you read these lines. Read More »
For a month, APB developer Realtime Worlds tried to squash rampant bankruptcy rumors by saying it was simply restructuring to reflect the staffing needs of a company developing an MMO versus a company supporting an MMO. Today, that answer no longer holds water: Realtime Worlds is insolvent and administrators have been appointed to determine the future of the studio. Read More »
Two weeks ago, Insomniac Games told us an announcement was on the way. What the developer didn't tell us was that it had two big announcements to make: new Ratchet & Clank and Resistance games are both in development and scheduled for release in 2011. Read More »
Our first look at space combat in BioWare's highly anticipated MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic, shows ships battling through asteroid fields, enemy fighters, frigates, and destroyers, all to the familiar brassy major chords of John Williams' "Rebel Fanfare." Prepare for the jump to light speed (sorry, Star Wars: Galaxies, couldn't resist). See More »
Microsoft wants a bigger chunk of the mobile gaming pie, and the company revealed today the course it's plotting to get it: launch Windows Phone 7 with Xbox Live built-in and a host of major titles from Microsoft Game Studios, third-party publishers, and indie devs. Read More »
After an unintended hiatus (thanks to a confluence of scheduling conflicts), we're back to the usual business of getting derailed from any and all game-related talk that comes up. And somewhere in the madness, we manage to talk seriously about how the comedy button works. Special thanks to IGN's Arthur Gies for running our audio this week! Read More »
Freeware used to be a completely different animal back in the earlier days of home computing, but the birth of the Internet and the more recent advent of blazing-fast connections speeds have changed things completely. The Flash gaming scene has since exploded, giving bedroom coders and startup indie studios a shot at having their games played by millions of players. That's a win-win for players looking to get in some short bursts of gaming. But how does one stay afloat simply making free browser-based games on a full-time basis? The folks at Nitrome Limited have it figured out. Read More »
