The cover is awful; the music is worse. With Dio gone, ex–Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan lends Sabbath a jarring bluesy edge. A sober Ward rejoined but soon fell off the wagon and packed his bags again. Their live stage set incorporated a model of Stonehenge and a dwarf. The makers of This Is Spinal Tap, if no one else, were impressed.
