Foursquare Takes Over Times Square [PIC]

A massive array of shimmering advertisements for Foursquare has been erected in New York City’s Times Square. This picture just appeared on Flickr; it’s pretty impressive. The ad towers over American Eagle’s Times Square retail store.

FoursquareFoursquareFoursquare reportedly did not pay for the ad space. That means American Eagle is open to promote multiple location services; it’s also one of the retailers using Shopkick, a location-based rewards service.

It seems like just a short time ago that these location services were only used by a few hardcore web tech geeks. Now they’re so mainstream that they’re taking up a chunk of the New York skyline. Did you see that coming? If so, you’ve been ahead of the curve.

  • This looks really beautiful .. the colors are vibrant .. but the thing is Geo location isn't the mainstream yet ... websites have launched features and even there are sites like foursquare, gowalla, brighkite and facebook too .. to make it a NEXT big thing .. but its not yet there ..

    BTW, since FB is now competing with Four Square - has any existing FB users, found that they are now FORCING FB users to provide text mobile numbers?

    I've been a FB user for over a year. I do NOT have a text mobile phone (I can not afford it now). Yesterday, FB refused to let me log on my account unless I gave them a text mobile number.
    My account has low activity, so there is nothing suspicious about it. I sent FB an email feedback on this 30 hours ago, and still no reply from FB, and I remain locked out.

    Is FB FORCING its users to provide text mobile phone numbers now - to compete against Four Square?
