Late Pasang Lhamu SherpaFirst Nepali woman to climb Everest. Pasang Lhamu was the first Nepali woman to scale Mt. Everest and seventeenth woman in the world to conquer the summit. Her first attempt on the summit was on 22nd April 1993 which was unsuccessful. It was during her second attempt that she finally reached the summit. Unfortunately, she was not able to share the glory of her achievement as she met with a tragic death while descending from the summit. |
Appa Sherpa20 times Everest Climber Appa Sherpa, the legendary climber broke his own record by scaling Mount Everest for the 20th time recently. Appa Sherpa, 49, was leading a team of Western mountaineers and other Sherpa guides to the 8,848m peak. Appa lives in Seattle USA with his two kids and wife. Once his kids finishes education he wants to return to Nepal. |
Kazi SherpaReached summit of Everest in 21 hours. On October 17, 1998, Kazi became the fastest person to climb from base camp, to the summit of Mt. Everest. Kazi took 2hr. 5min. off the record set by Marc Batard (French) on September 25-26th 1988. When he made the ascent Kazi climbed the Everest without bottled oxygen and had his name appear in the Guinness Book of World Record 2000 for the fastest climbing. He wore Nepali national dress daura and suruwal and carried a national flag to the top. |
Late Babu Chhiri SherpaReached summit of Everest in 16.56hrs. Babu Chhiri Sherpa set a unique world record by spending 21 hours on the summit of Everest without bottled oxygen in the year 1999. Nobody was able to spend that many hours at such a great height. On 21st May 2000 he broke another world record by climbing the Everest in just 16 hours 56 minutes and became the fastest person to climb Everest. In the year 1995 and 1999 he climbed Everest twice in the same season which is also a unique achievement. He climbed Everest 10 times and established himself into the same position as Ang Rita Sherpa who is popularly known as The Snow Leopard. |
Lakpa Gelu SherpaClimbed and returned from the summit of Everest in 18.20 hours. Lakpa Gelu Sherpa (36) again broke the fastest climbing record of Pemba Dorji Sherpa. Lakpa started for the Summit at 5.00 PM. on 25 May 2003 and reached on the Summit at 3hrs. 56 min. 46 sec. AM. on 26 May 2003 and he reached down to Base Camp at 11.20 AM. on 26 May 2003. He completed this ascent from Base Camp to top and reached down to Base Camp in 18 hours 20 Minutes. This was Mr. Lhakpa Gelu Sherpa's tenth time reaching the Summit of Everest. |
Pemba Dorji SherpaClimbed Everest in 12.45 hours. Pemba Dorji Sherpa (25) broke the fastest climbing record established by Late Babu Chhiri Sherpa. Pemba climbed to the summit of Everest in 12 hours 45 minutes on 23 May 2003. Pemba comes from Rolwaling district of Nepal. |
Temba Tshiri SherpaYoungest person to climb Everest Temba Tshiri Sherpa became the youngest conqueror of Mount Everest, on 23 May 2001. Temba created this history during his second attempt on Everest after losing several fingers to frostbite from Nepal during a failed summit bid. Temba broke a 32-year-old record held by Shambhu Tamang who climbed the peak at 17 years of age. Temba was honored with Pasang Lhamu Memorial Achievement Award. |
Nawang SherpaFirst Amputee to climb Everest On 16th May 2004, Nawang made a historical ascent to the summit of Mt. Everest and became the first ever amputee to climb Everest. Nawang was a professional guide until he met with an accident and had to remove one of his legs. While in hospital bed, he heard of a foreigner climber who successfully reached the summit of Everest. His inspiration began soon after and he started to build courage and preparation. He received support from Dr. Walter Reccate of University of California, Steve Sheridan, Linda & Tom McMillan, and amputee Ed Hommer and Wongchu Sherpa, President of ESA. |
Pem Dorje Sherpa & Moni MulepatiFirst and only couple to wed on the summit of Everest Pem Dorje Sherpa and Moni Mulepati climbed and married on the summit of Everest on May 30th 2005 and established themselves as the first ever couple to marry on the highest point on earth. Kami Sherpa was the witness and photographer during their wedding expedition. They also set an example by making an inter-caste marriage. Upon their return from the successful wedding expedition, they were received with huge support from the general people as well as local media. Ming Kipa SherpaYoungest woman ever to summit the Everest. Ming Kipa is the youngest person ever to climb Mt. Everest. She reached the summit on 24 May, 2003. Her sister,Lhakpa Sherpa was part of the expedition, as was her 24-year-old brother, Mingma Gyalu Sherpa. Nepal law bans climbers under 16 from attempting Everest. So Ming Kipa Sherpa summitted Everest from the Tibetan side. |
