Lina bought Gourry another magical sword in a magic shop, but it wasn't nearly as good as the Sword of Light. When they talked about that sword, a thief listened to them and that night sneaked into Gourry's room. Gourry caught the thief, and Lina learned that Lord Langmeyer of Solaria would pay a good price for magical items. Lina got an idea to blackmail the man, hoping to get several magical swords from him for in exchange for not having his trafficking in stolen goods revealed.

When they arrived at Solaria, they found that the city was preparing for war, so she and Gourry stole into a chapel-like building that was kept under close guard, searching for evidence. However, they were seen by some more of the mysterious men in black, the same king that they had met in Bezerdo. Lina and Gourry fled from the building, chased by two men. Then, a man with a mask interrupted the chase and disappeared.

Next morning, Lina and Gourry got an invitation from the acting lord, Laavas Langmeyer. When they attended the dinner with Laavas, they met Luke and Milina, who were employed as bodyguards.

After the dinner, Lina and Gourry were attacked by Zain agai. It was clear that those men in black were active in Solaria.

The next day, Luke brought a message from Laavas to Lina. In the message, Laavas said that his brother, Beisam, was plotting a rebellion, and Laavas wanted to employ Lina Inverse to stop his brother. She refused the request, suspecting that Laavas was trying to trick her.

Lina and Gourry sneaked into the castle, and there found a sick old man who had been imprisoned. It was the rightful lord, Krain Langmeyer. Laavas had been lying to them! When they left the room, though, Luke and Milina came. The couple chased Lina and Gourry out into the city of Solaria, and once the man wearing a mask interrupted. Lina said that Laavas had been lying, and that he had some kind of relationship with the men in black, whom they had fought with in Bezerdo. Then, about a dozen more of the men in black appeared. At least two of them, Zain and Zord, Lina knew to be half-demons.

After those men in black withdrew, the four talked about Laavas's ruse, and decided to attack the chapel that Lina and Gourry had sneaked into before. It turned out to be a factory for chimeras, the half-demons. Luke threatened one of the sorcerers and found out that their orders had come from Laavas. Soon after, many more men in black came and Lina and her comrades found themselves in a crisis. The man with a mask intervened for a third time, and Zain teleported from the factory to the castle. The man with a mask was Wizer Freion, one of the best inspectors of Ruvinagardo Republic. Ruvinagardo had been a kingdom until about three years ago, when their king had carried out a project to make half-demons for some military purpose. The project had been disrupted by chance by none other than Lina herself. Soon after, the king was expelled from his nation. Laavas was the former king of Ruvinagardo, Bergis, and those men in black were the former imperial guards.

Five comrades attacked at the castle Welgis. They fought with many half-human, half-demon chimeras, Zain and Zord the most powerful among them. Zain was eager to kill Lina, because he thought that she was the cause of the overthrow of their nation. Zord was a bloodthirsty killer. Lina and her comrades managed to kill them both and proceeded to search for Laavas. They found and confronted him in a treasure room full of magical items, but Laavas was also a half-demon chimera. He was too strong for them to defeat, and broke both Gourry's and Luke's swords. Gourry found a sword that able to resist Laavas' powerful magical attack and took it. Lina then killed Laavas with the Ragna Blade.
