Recovery Summer

Posted by Van Helsing at 5:55 PM | Comments (6)

Whatever absurd talking points are spewed by government apparatchiks, no meaningful recovery can take place until socialists are removed from power.

Fortunately, it won't be long before Americans begin to take back their country.

Why at Ground Zero?

Posted by Van Helsing at 3:02 PM | Comments (87)

Via Rightnetwork, the sister of a 9/11 victim asks the obvious question regarding Feisal Abdul Rauf's obscene mosque:

Almost as intolerable as the mosque itself is the contempt liberal dhimmis demonstrate for decent Americans by expecting us to buy the line that jabbing a stick in our eye is a gesture of peace. If this slimy Rauf isn't advancing the exact same agenda as Mohammed Atta et al., then let him answer the question: Why at Ground Zero?

Obama's Eyes Are on 2012 Prize

Posted by Van Helsing at 10:00 AM | Comments (18)

Evidence accrues that Comrade Obama continues to defy the public he supposedly represents by imposing overwhelmingly unpopular policies because he doesn't care if his party loses Congress this fall. The lefties at Time, who helped hype him into office, discuss the ostensible decline of Obama's Organizing for America machine:

What happened to Barack Obama's once vaunted political machine? The outfit that put upwards of 8 million volunteers on the street in 2008 - known as Organizing for America - is a ghost of its former self. Its staff has shrunk from 6,000 to 300, and its donors are depressed: receipts are a fraction of what they were in 2008. Virtually no one in politics believes it will turn many contests this fall. "There's no chance that OFA is going to have the slightest impact on the midterms," says Charlie Cook, who tracks congressional races.
Neglect is to blame. After Obama was elected, his political aides ignored the army he had created until it eventually disappeared.

Like ACORN, OFA is unfortunately not really dead, but lying low beneath its rock until it is called forth for the Manchurian Moonbat's big comeback in 2012:

So earlier this year, when the White House gave OFA a whopping $30 million - more than half of the party's entire budget for 2010 - senior Democrats suspected a hidden agenda. Several tell Time that OFA boss David Plouffe, who ran Obama's 2008 campaign, is using the cash to rebuild an army for 2012 under the cover of boosting turnout in 2010. OFA is putting staff into such states as Virginia, North Carolina and Arizona, which have few close statewide races this fall but which are all prime targets in an Obama re-election campaign. "This is totally about 2012," Cook says.

What everything is totally about with Obama is Obama. November's congressional cannon fodder will be a small price to pay for ObamaCare, the biggest lurch toward totalitarian collectivism since FDR. So long as the king is on the throne, all is copacetic. "Community organizing" will be taken to new extremes of unsavoriness in 2012 to keep him there, as the Injustice Department's refusal to prosecute the New Black Panthers for voter intimidation makes clear.

In the meantime, Obamunists in the media will be glad to condition the public with two years of stories about stodgy old white guys in Congress preventing the Historic First Mulatto President from saving the world if grownups do manage to take control of the legislative branch.

Multiculturalism Collapses in Belgium

Posted by Van Helsing at 9:26 AM | Comments (14)

Here's how multiculturalism is working out in liberal Belgium:

A top Belgian politician warned the country's citizens on Sunday to "get ready for the break-up of Belgium," as King Albert II seeks to relaunch knife-edge coalition talks.
Leading francophone Socialist Laurette Onkelinx, considered a potential successor to party chief Elio Di Rupo, who gave up on negotiations with separatist Flemish leaders on Friday, gave her prognosis in a newspaper interview. …
Albert II tasked late on Saturday the respective speakers of Belgium's French-speaking Wallonia and Dutch-speaking Flanders state parliaments to try once more to navigate seven-party talks aimed at securing some form of government, other than the existing day-to-day formation.
That came after seven weeks of efforts by Di Rupo, who says that the biggest Flemish party, the independence-minded New Flemish Alliance (N-VA), rejected the widest set of concessions towards full autonomy for Flanders in Belgium's tortured recent history.
Belgium, which holds the rotating presidency of the European Union until the end of the year, adding a further layer to the pressure on the sovereign, has not been able to point to a stable government since June 2007.

Adding to the chaos is the status of the capital Brussels:

While located within Flanders' borders, Brussels is officially bi-lingual, although recent studies have shown accelerating numbers of registered French speakers, including the nearly one-in-three who hail from abroad.
Tens of thousands of Flemish people, meanwhile, took part on Sunday in an annual demonstration which consists in symbolically "encircling" Brussels by bike or on foot, to remind locals that they are surrounded by Flanders.

However, importing enough Third World colonists to make America bi-cultural will work out much more smoothly, because we already have a plan for what to do when the country inevitably splits apart. We'll just cede the Southwest to Mexico, like this:

Some Perspective on the BBQ Koran Spectacle

Posted by Van Helsing at 8:17 AM | Comments (39)

Just to provide a little perspective on the hyperbolic outrage even the conservative media has sanctimoniously wallowed in since Terry Jones misguidedly made a point by threatening to burn a few Korans, here's what was happening to the last few Bibles in territories controlled by Palestinians in 2007:

After defeating their rivals in Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement, Muslim extremists are focusing their attacks on Christians in Gaza City. Christians in Gaza City have issued an appeal to the international community and a plea for protection against the increased attacks by Muslim extremists.
Father Manuel Musallem, head of Gaza's Latin church, told the AP that Muslims have ransacked, burned and looted a school and convent that are part of the Gaza Strip's small Romany Catholic community. He told the AP that crosses were broken, damage was done to a statue of Jesus, and at the Rosary Sister School and nearby convent, prayer books were burned.
Gunmen used the roof of the school during the fighting, and the convent was "desecrated," Mussalem told the AP.
"Nothing happens by mistake these days," he said.
Father Musalam additionally told The Jerusalem Post that the Muslim gunmen used rocket-propeled grenades (RPGs) to blow through the doors of the church and school, before burning Bibles and destroying every cross they could get their hands on.

Of course, there are big differences. One is that Jones presumably wouldn't be burning someone else's Korans. Another is that no one in the media much cares about burning Bibles. But unlike Christianity, the malignant superstitions of backwards brutes must be ostentatiously revered.

Government Admits Medical Costs Will Rise Under ObamaCare

Posted by Van Helsing at 7:12 AM | Comments (19)

So now that our children and grandchildren will be paying $billions upon $billions to let Big Government seize control of the healthcare system, costs will come down for us as promised, right? On the contrary:

The health-care overhaul enacted last spring won't significantly change national health spending over the next decade compared with projections before the law was passed, according to government figures released Thursday. …
Regardless of the health law, national health spending has been rising in recent years and economists expect that to continue. In February, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services projected that overall national health spending would increase an average of 6.1% a year over the next decade.
The center's economists recalculated the numbers in light of the health bill and now project that the increase will average 6.3% a year, according to a report in the journal Health Affairs. Total U.S. health spending will reach $4.6 trillion by 2019, accounting for nearly one of every five U.S. dollars spent, the report says.

That's what the government says. If you want the real costs, multiply by 17 or so. In 1987, the government predicted that Medicaid would cost less than $1 billion in 1992. The actual cost turned out to be $17 billion.

At least Obamanomics may cause out-of-pocket medical expenses to decline:

In the next year, spending from private health insurance is expected to grow while out-of-pocket medical costs decline because more people will stay on Cobra insurance coverage for the unemployed, the report said.

Much of ObamaCare doesn't kick in until 2014, when the Nationalizer in Chief won't have to worry about running for office again. Consequently,

U.S. health spending is projected to rise 9.2% in 2014, up from the 6.6% projected before the law took effect.

As noted previously, the cost of healthcare insurance has already started shooting upward.

Unless you are a power-drunk bureaucrat, there is no significant upside to the disaster known as ObamaCare. Our only hope is to elect a Congress that will defund the debacle.

Conservative Club Shut Down by Educrat

Posted by Van Helsing at 4:04 PM | Comments (37)

What's the difference between an American college campus and a socialist police state? Increasingly, the answer is: not much.

(Lake Worth, FL) On Tuesday September 7, 2010 at around 11:00am one Palm Beach State College (PBSC) student and two Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) members, state chairman Daniel P. Diaz and state vice chairman Eddie Shaffer, were shut down and had campus police called on them after tabling and recruiting during club rush at the College. The PBSC student, Christina Beattie, had received prior permission from college administrator Olivia Ford-Morris to promote her organization on campus via telephone and email communication.
On the day of club rush, officials approached the group and after seeing information about the organization and its ideals criticizing Barack Obama's economic policy. Ms. Ford-Morris was visibly disturbed by the material presented, published by the Heritage Foundation, criticizing President Obama's administration. College officials then called the campus police to assure the group left campus. Ms. Ford-Morris denied having ever talked to Ms. Beattie about giving permission to the organization to be a part of PBSC club rush.
"I was shocked and offended by her dishonesty. She outright denied giving me permission to table at Club Rush simply because she disagreed with my beliefs! The fact is, she was using her administrative power to silence the conservative opposition." said Christina Beattie.

They should have just replaced the conservative literature with homosexual pornography or a stack of Korans. Then they wouldn't even have needed permission.

US Shoveling Money at Mexico to Drill in Gulf

Posted by Van Helsing at 12:44 PM | Comments (9)

Even if Comrade Obama is throwing thousands out of work by closing down off-shore drilling in the Gulf, at least Mexicans get to drill for the oil. We even shovel $billions at them to do it:

The U.S. Export-Import Bank, an independent federal agency, loaned more than $1 billion to the Mexican state oil company PEMEX in 2009 to support the company's oil drilling in the southern Gulf of Mexico. The bank has another $1 billion in loans in the pipeline for 2010, unless Congress objects.
On May 27, after the British Petroleum oil spill, President Obama imposed a moratorium on U.S. deepwater drilling in the Gulf, effecting 33 deepwater drilling rigs in the region.

The purpose of the loans is to get Mexico to drill more oil in the Gulf so that we can pay to import it. Why don't we just drill oil in the Gulf ourselves, creating more jobs and saving us a fortune? Apparently that would oppress the polar bears.

Burning Koran Bad, Burning Bible Fine

Posted by Van Helsing at 11:43 AM | Comments (70)

Everyone has heard about the pastor of a tiny church in Florida who plans to inflame the media on September 11 by burning some Korans. Fewer know about the Bibles that have already been burned in Afghanistan — by the US Army. At the time, David Brody commented:

The Pentagon has confiscated a stack of Bibles sent to an Evangelical soldier in Afghanistan. The Bibles were printed in the local Pashto and Dari languages. Military rules forbid proselytizing. By the way, the Bibles were burned because the rules on the base say that all garbage is burned at the end of the day. But just asking here; if the U.S. Military seized a stack full of Korans, would they be burned? You think that might cause a little outrage in the Muslim world?

Why no outrage in the Christian world? Because by now the anti-Christian ruling class has conditioned us to accept Bibles being regarded as trash — whereas Korans are sacred to Muslims and liberals alike.

Not a big deal, like burning Korans.

ChiComs Inflict Rolling Blackouts in the Name of Global Warming Hoax

Posted by Van Helsing at 10:21 AM | Comments (12)

Our liberal rulers have made no secret of their admiration for communist China — and no wonder. Once we have "fundamentally transformed" our way into a similar system of government, it will be a cinch to meet energy-saving targets on behalf of the flourishing polar bears:

Chinese steel mills and mobile phone factories are being idled and thousands of homes in one area are doing without electricity as local governments order power cuts to meet energy-saving targets set by Beijing.
Rolling blackouts and enforced power cuts are affecting key industrial areas. The prosperous eastern city of Taizhou turned off street lights and ordered hotels and shopping malls to cut power use. In Anping County southwest of Beijing, an area known as China's wire-manufacturing capital, thousands of factories and homes have endured daylong blackouts over the past two weeks.
"We can't meet deadlines for some orders and will have to pay penalties," said Han Hongmai, general manager of Anping's Jintai Metal Wire Co. "At home we can't use the toilet" on blackout days due to lack of power for water pumps, he said.

As always, ham-fisted government coercion is backfiring.

Han, the manager in Anping, said his wire factory coped by purchasing its own generator. So it still uses power - but from a source that might be dirtier and less efficient.

But the important thing is for China's rulers to be able to boast at international conferences that they've done their part to make people suffer on behalf of the global warming hoax.

Actually, polar bears couldn't care less whether the lights are on in China.

ObamaCare Already Causing Insurance Prices to Rise

Posted by Van Helsing at 9:25 AM | Comments (14)

Only the severely cognitively challenged could have failed to realize that ObamaCare would drive up the cost of medical insurance. But just to get it on the record:

Health insurers say they plan to raise premiums for some Americans as a direct result of the health overhaul in coming weeks, complicating Democrats' efforts to trumpet their signature achievement before the midterm elections.
Aetna Inc., some BlueCross BlueShield plans and other smaller carriers have asked for premium increases of between 1% and 9% to pay for extra benefits required under the law, according to filings with state regulators.
These and other insurers say Congress's landmark refashioning of U.S. health coverage, which passed in March after a brutal fight, is causing them to pass on more costs to consumers than Democrats predicted.

In equally surprising news, Thursday came right after Wednesday this morning.

Many carriers also are seeking additional rate increases that they say they need to cover rising medical costs. As a result, some consumers could face total premium increases of more than 20%.

The response from the statist thugs imposing ObamaCare was equally predictable:

The White House says insurers are using the law as an excuse to raise rates and predicts that state regulators will block some of the large increases.

Here's an idea: why don't our rulers demand that insurers provide full coverage for everyone for free? The concept should make sense to socialists who have never grasped that money can't keep going out faster than it comes in forever.

White House Names Asian Carp Czar

Posted by Van Helsing at 8:27 AM | Comments (41)

Here's a clue that the federal government is getting a little oversized — we now have an Asian Carp Czar:

The White House has tapped a former leader of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana Wildlife Federation as the Asian carp czar to oversee the federal response to keeping the invasive species out of the Great Lakes.
On a conference call today with Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin and other congressional leaders, President Obama's Council on Environmental Quality announced the selection of John Goss to lead the near $80 million, multi-pronged federal attack against Asian carp.

Only $80 million? Why so stingy? "Investing" in the War on Asian Carp is sure to stimulate the economy at least as much as sticking up American Recover and Reinvestment Act signs along every roadside in the country.

The Carp Czar takes a power nap.

Fidel Castro Gives Up on Communism

Posted by Van Helsing at 7:29 AM | Comments (43)

The moonbats running the media and the federal government are virtually the only people left on the planet who still believe in communism — now that even Fidel Castro has given up on it:

Fidel Castro told a visiting American journalist that Cuba's communist economic model doesn't work, a rare comment on domestic affairs from a man who has conspicuously steered clear of local issues since stepping down four years ago.
The fact that things are not working efficiently on this cash-strapped Caribbean island is hardly news. Fidel's brother Raul, the country's president, has said the same thing repeatedly. But the blunt assessment by the father of Cuba's 1959 revolution is sure to raise eyebrows.
Jeffrey Goldberg, a national correspondent for The Atlantic magazine, asked if Cuba's economic system was still worth exporting to other countries, and Castro replied: "The Cuban model doesn't even work for us anymore" Goldberg wrote Wednesday in a post on his Atlantic blog.

Other than imploding Venezuela and frozen in amber North Korea, the USA — known as the Land of Liberty prior to Obama's "fundamental transformation" — is the only country on earth moving toward the dysfunctional nightmare of communism rather than away from it.

It's never too late to learn.

Good news for inmates at the San Francisco County Jail's San Bruno facility, which houses 750 inmates. Authorities have found a solution to the brutal homosexual rapes that occur in prison — they've installed 16 condom machines.

"It may be controversial," Sheriff Michael Hennessey said, "but I think the larger health education message is important."

The message that politically correct authorities are more likely to facilitate homosexual depravity than make an effort to prevent horrific assaults is even more important.
