2010 Legislative Session

Update!

Constitutional convention legislation is still alive and well in the 2010 Legislative Session.

Senate Bill 177 will be introduced in the Senate when the sponsor and Rules Chairman decide to bring it up for the BIR and Senate Joint Resolution 42 is in the Senate Rules Committee waiting for Senator Lowell Barron to bring it up before the Senate. House Joint Resolution 54 was tabled on February 24th but has the opportunity to be re-introduced in the House. SJR42 has 17 co-sponsors, so that with main sponsor Senator Ted Little, that is a majority of the Senate. HJR54 has 24 co-sponsors, together with main sponsor Speaker Pro Tem Demetrius Newton, that is a total of 25. The Resolutions have more total co-sponsors than ever before.

In addition, a survey sent to all legislators was returned to ACCR showing that the overwhelming majority of those who responded, said "yes" to the question:
Do you believe that Alabama voters should be able to vote on whether or not to hold a constitutional convention in Alabama?

Let your legislators know you want them to vote in favor of allowing the people to vote on holding a constitutional convention to rewrite the 1901 Alabama Constitution. Your voice is the most important voice your legislators need to hear.
