Communist Party of India seeks free house sites to all eligible families

ERODE: Members of Communist Party of India staged a demonstration here on Monday urging the State Government to provide free house sites to all eligible families.

A large number of poor families in the district were yet to be given free house sites under different government programmes. The authorities should initiate immediate efforts to identify the eligible families and provide them with free house sites. Besides, the government should also provide pattas to the families living on the government poramboke lands. Steps should be taken to include those living in the poramboke lands under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme.

The members also wanted the government to extend the Kalaignar Housing Scheme for the poor living in urban areas in the State.

A large number of persons who were allotted houses/flats through the Tamil Nadu Housing Board were yet to get pattas. The government should take immediate steps to provide pattas to them, members demanded.

Senior party functionaries and cadres participated in the demonstration.

Special Correspondent from Salem adds: Demanding pattas for house sites, the Salem Urban Committee of CPI staged a demonstration as part of its State-wide agitation on Monday.

The cadre, with support from locals, said that the poor were waiting for long to get the pattas for their house sites and lands. They had been approaching the officials concerned umpteen number of times but to no avail. The dwellers who had been residing for long should be given house site pattas. Similarly, they demanded that pattas must be given to those who had been holding small and tiny land holdings.

Under the Kalaignar Housing Scheme, those who had been staying for long on the lands of places of worship, poromboke, trusts and mutts also should be issued pattas. The State should enact a special legislation to provide legal sanctioning to their demands, they urged. The Kalaignar scheme must be extended to urban pockets.

They also wanted the fund allotment of Rs. 75,000 for housing scheme to be hiked to a minimum of Rs. 3 lakh. “This will ensure the beneficiaries a pucca house for a safe living,” they pointed out. C. Mahendran, State deputy secretary, CPI, inaugurated the agitation. District secretary A. Jeevanandam presided.
