Belize Defence Force maintains lead in Caribbean Motors Cup Tournament Print E-mail

Orlando Jimenez (Belize Defence Force), Kareem Haylock (Griga United) and Lisbey Castillo (Griga United)The Belize Premier Football League Caribbean Motors Cup Opening Season continued over the weekend with games across the country. The competition continued on Sunday September 12 with two more games on the schedule. At Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro Town, the defending champion Belize Defence Force maintained its top billing in the competition when it defeated the host team San Pedro Sea Dogs by the score of 2 to 1.

The home team San Pedro Sea Dogs got on the scoreboard first when Melvin Jones scored the 1st goal of the game in the 8th minute of play to give his team a temporary lead.  It was not until the closing minutes of the first half of the game that the defending champions got on the scoreboard when Richard Jimenez scored his team’s 1st goal of the game in the 40th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. Orlando Jimenez then gave his team the lead for good when he scored the winning goal of the game in the 43rd minute of play.

In the other game played at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town, Griga United defeated San Felipe Barcelona by the score of 3 to1. Griga United took an early lead when Lisbey Castillo scored the 1st goal of the game in the 19th minute of play and from that point never looked back. The lead was further extended when Kareem Haylock scored his team’s 2nd goal in the 24th minute of play to give his team a 2-0 lead.

The home team San Felipe Barcelona finally got on the scoreboard when Deris Benavides scored his team’s only goal in the 75th minute of play via a penalty kick. The final goal of the game was scored by Jacinto Bermudez in the 78th minute of play that gave Griga United the big victory. The weekend games started on Saturday September 11, 2010, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in the City of Belmopan, where the visiting Toledo Ambassadors defeated the home team Belmopan Blaze by the score of 3 to 1.

The visiting Toledo Ambassadors got on the scoreboard first when Ashley Torres scored the 1st run of the game in the 10th minute of play to give his team an early 1-0 lead. The Toledo Ambassadors’ lead was further extended when Orland Lyons scored an auto goal in the 20th minute of play to give his team a 2-0 lead. The Belmopan Blaze finally got on the scoreboard when Leon Jones scored his team’s only goal in the 54th minute of play.

Toledo Ambassadors’ final goal was scored by Wilmer Garcia in the 75th minute for the 3-1 victory. Meanwhile, at the Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo Town, F.C. Belize and Hankook Verdes played to a 2-2 draw. Hankook Verdes got on the scoreboard first when Marlon Meza scored the first of his two goals in the 28th minute of play via a penalty kick to give his team an early 1-0 lead. The visiting FC Belize got on the scoreboard when Leobardo Mendez scored an auto goal in the 32nd minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.

The home team Hankook Verdes’ Marlon Meza scored his second goal of the game in the 47th minute of play to give his team once again the lead. However, Hankook Verdes was denied that victory when Jeromy James scored the equalizing goal for F.C. Belize in the 71st minute of play. At the sound of the long whistle, it was indeed a draw for both teams.
