SCOPE

Cybermetrics is both an Electronic-only Journal and a Virtual Forum (The Journal) devoted to the study of the quantitative analysis of scholarly and scientific communications in the Internet. It is open to world-wide researchers to publish and discuss their findings. Internet offers them new and increased capabilities to distribute their results to a greater audience.

From 1997 the editors are organizing a series of conferences (The Seminars) on a yearly basis (Cybermetrics'XX) to disseminate results from quantitative analysis of the Internet. These events intend to show preliminary results and new methods and they are organized simultaneously with large International Congresses.

Cybermetrics also maintains a series of directories of electronic resources (The Source), including secondary archives of interesting web papers in pdf format. The aim is to provide a reference tool to those researchers involved in the quantitative description and analysis of the Internet as a scholarly communication tool. It is also intended to add original data as a source or reference for larger studies, specially including figures about the distribution and evolution of R&D; contents in the World Wide Web.

TOPICS

Since 2003 Cybermetrics has narrowed its focus for covering only methodologies and results of scientometric, bibliometric or informetric research with emphasis placed on aspects related to Internet:

Application of scientometric methodology to the analysis of scientific communication in the Web and the Usenet, including the development of new Internet R&D; indicators.

Analyses of hypertext linking phenomena, the informetric laws and distributions, and any mathematical model derived.

Impact of the Internet on scientific co-operation and other aspects related to science organization, information flows and interdisciplinary connections.

Evaluation of electronic scientific journals and peer-review processes in the World Wide Web.

In particular, Cybermetrics is open to those contributions with special requirements, where the new graphical items (multimedia and/or dynamic objects) required by scientometric articles to represent the structure of scientific knowledge production are not suitable for printed publication. It might also be useful for relevant appendixes involving large amount of data that could be distributed as files ready for download (xls, rtf, doc, pdf, ps, ...).

All papers are provided in both HTML and Adobe Acrobat format (suitable for printing).
