News Release - June 18, 2003 SASKPOWER FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR BROADWAY THEATRE
SaskPower is providing support for arts and culture in Saskatoon, through a contribution of $25,000 toward renovations of the Broadway Theatre.
"The renovation of the Broadway Theatre will ensure both residents and visitors to Saskatoon can continue to enjoy a wide variety of film, arts and cultural events. The renovation project will also help preserve an important heritage and cultural landmark in the city," Saskatoon Nutana MLA Pat Atkinson said, on behalf of Crown Investments Corporation Minister Maynard Sonntag. "As Saskatchewan's electric utility and largest Crown corporation, SaskPower has a commitment to nurture and contribute to the quality of life enjoyed by the people of Saskatchewan. Each year, SaskPower provides approximately $1 million in annual support to hundreds of events across Saskatchewan, as well as select capital projects," Atkinson noted. "This has been an exciting year for the Broadway Theatre," Marsha Delouchery-Day said, fundraising chairperson, Broadway Theatre. "We are proud of all the improvements to the Theatre, from heating, insulation, wiring, code upgrades, and now the auditorium is a showpiece of Art Deco style." Plans call for all the funds to be in place by the end of 2003, so that renovations to the Broadway Theatre can be completed. The Broadway, which is Canada's only community owned non-profit repertory cinema, has been run by a volunteer Board for the past nine years - the Friends of Broadway Theatre. -30- For More Information, Contact:
