Nigel was first elected as Member of Parliament for Eastbourne, Willingdon and East Dean in 1992. His family home is in Wannock in the constituency. He is married to Barbara, who works in the NHS. They have two teenage children, Louise and Stephen.

Nigel attended grammar school and then Queen’s College Oxford.  He is qualified as a solicitor, and finds this very useful in helping constituents with their problems.  He holds regular Advice Surgeries and deals with hundreds of letters and emails every week.

Nigel is Shadow Pensions Minister and Shadow Minister for Older People.  He has been Chairman of the All Party Group for Older People for many years.  He is also an officer of the British-Cyprus Group.

To relax, Nigel likes to walk on the Downs, listen to music, work in the garden and support Eastbourne Borough FC.  He is Patron of a number of local charities including the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Link Centre for Deafened People.  He is also Vice-President of Age Concern Eastbourne.
