Orly Taitz, World Net Daily, and the loons over at Free Republic having all been going crazy over this document, which purports to be a record of the birth of Barack Obama at Coast General Hospital on August 4, 1961:
Looks convincing, huh ? Well, not so much.
First of all, there’s a question of why a birth registration record would be issued in 1964 for a child born three years earlier who was not even living in the country at the time. This is significant because any original birth record would be a British colonial record, not a Kenyan record. Kenya was still a British colony in 1961, and did not become independent until December 12, 1963.
Strike One
This leads to the second problem with the purported birth certificate. From December 12, 1963 until December 12, 1964, the official title of Kenya was the Dominion of Kenya. It wasn’t until a year later, on December 12, 1964 that the Republic of Kenya came into existence. And yet, the document above, issued on February 17, 1964 purports to have been issued on behalf of the Office of Principal Registrar, Coast Province, Republic of Kenya.
Strike Two
Finally, this actually allegation has come up before, albeit without documentary “proof” purporting to establish it, and seemingly debunked:
The document, supposedly “certified with an embossed seal” and “witness signatures” says America’s next commander in chief was born at Coast Province General Hospital in Mombasa at 7:24pm on August 4, 1961.
Officials at the hospital confirm they’ve been besieged with requests for information on Obama’s birth but haven’t been able to find any record of it.
“We do not have computerized records going back to the 1960’s and can only sort through our archives by hand,” Dr. Christopher Mwanga, an administrator at the Mombasa hospital tells GLOBE. “We have searched for all the names of babies born on Aug. 4, 1961, and have not found the name of Barack Hussein Obama. That is all I can tell you.”
The hospital has no records, and yet there’s this document, purportedly created three years after Obama’s birth, by officials of a country that wouldn’t exist for another ten months, that has miraculously appeared.
Strike Three.
Something tells me that the birthers are going to be sadly disappointed when this one is revealed for the forgery it most likely is.

Second, a point about the document above that I neglected to mention before. It’s worth noting that what we’ve been presented with is a photograph of a document. It’s not a PDF or other similar image that would generated had the document been scanned with an optical scanner. The only reason I can think that someone would do that would be to hide as many of the obvious forgery flaws as they could.
Update # 2: Dr. Conspiracy points out a few other inconsistencies on the face of the document:
There are various internal inconsistencies that have been pointed out that suggest that the Kenyan certificate is more a hoax than a forgery (e.g. the certificate number 47,044 – Obama was 47 years old when he became the 44th president of the US and that the name of the Registrar, E. F. Lavender, is also a brand of handwash).
If there was a Strike Four, that’d be it.

This is all well and good but there’s still one salient point that everyone seems to be missing. It’s one of those logical, legitimate questions that hasn’t been answered? If Obama was born in Hawaii, why has he not signed a release form allowing us to see his actual birth certificate, not the phony, computer-generated “certification of live birth”. And, while we’re at it, why hasn’t he released all of his college records, like every other president? Would it reveal who actually paid for his education? Would it reveal the curriculum of a radical Marxist, something that would have made a difference to the voters? Seems like we are seeing some “buyers’ remorse” these days. Now notice what it says on top: “Certificate of Live Birth”. So even the holy long form you idiots are asking for has the title which you claim is not that of a real birth certificate. Epic FAIL.

I’ve been looking for this precise information on this topic for a long time.
Orly Taitz is not the issue. Racism is not the issue. The U.S. Constitution is the issue. The first paragraph of the United States Supreme Court’s website makes the following promise to the American People – “As the final arbiter of the law, the Court is charged with ensuring the American people the promise of equal justice under law and, thereby, also functions as guardian and interpreter of the Constitution.” To date, the United States Supreme Court has failed to do anything in furtherance of the search for the truth about Obama’s natural born citizen status. Furthermore, not one single solitary person or agency in the Executive, Legislative, or the rest of the Judicial branch of government has done anything other than accept Obama’s posted Certification of Live Birth as conclusive evidence of his alleged birthplace.
Mr. Obama claims that he was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961. As his only evidence that he meets the Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution’s requirement that a President be a natural born citizen, he produced a document called a “Certification of Live Birth,” which he posted on his website under the title: “Barack Obama’s Official Birth Certificate.”
At first blush, it is case closed. A closer examination of the facts, however, reveals that Mr. Obama failed to point out on his website that his posted “Official Birth Certificate,” as he called it, is actually a 2007 computer-generated, laser-printed summary document of his 1961 vital record(s) on file with the Hawaii State Department of Health. What we do not know, however, is what 1961 vital record the Certification of Live Birth is summarizing.
In 1961 there were at least six different procedures available to obtain a vital record (birth certificate) that the Certification of Live Birth could be summarizing. Five of the six procedures lacked an adequate indicia of reliability and trustworthiness because they were fraught with the potential for fraud. That said, an “official” state-issued document that summarizes a document that lacks an adequate indicia of reliability and trustworthiness is not worth the paper it is printed on. Why does all of this matter? This nation can not risk having a President who may harbor divided loyalties because the President of the United States is one of the three branches of government. He is the Executive branch. The nation speaks to all people through one voice, the President’s. The President can make treaties, grant pardons, sign and veto legislation, appoint a Cabinet, as well as Supreme Court Justices. In addition to these duties, the President knows the nation’s most important and secure secrets, and as the Commander in Chief of the military, has the military’s nuclear launch codes at the ready, and who can arguably, either take steps to weaken the nation, or even destroy it. In the words of Vice President Dick Cheney, “The president of the United States now for 50 years is followed at all times, 24 hours a day, by a military aide carrying a football that contains the nuclear codes that he would use and be authorized to use in the event of a nuclear attack on the United States. He could launch the kind of devastating attack the world has never seen. He doesn’t have to check with anybody. He doesn’t have to call the Congress. He doesn’t have to check with the courts. He has that authority because of the nature of the world we live in.”
