8/19/2010 Nick Punto, SS (Min) Punto left Thursday night's game against the Chicago White Sox in the fifth inning with a strained left hamstring.

Analysis: Punto just came off the disabled list on Monday because of the same injury. He appeared to aggravate it on a headfirst slide into second base. There was no immediate word on the severity of the injury. The game Thursday was Punto's first since returning from the disabled list. He had one hit in two at-bats against Mark Buehrle.
8/19/2010 Vicente Padilla, SP (LAD) The Los Angeles Dodgers have put Padilla on the 15-day disabled list because of a bulging disk in his neck.

Analysis: This is the second time that Padilla is on the DL this year. He missed eight weeks early in the season with a sore right elbow. Dodgers manager Joe Torre says Padilla has been bothered by the neck ailment for his past two starts. Torre isn't sure when Padilla will pitch again. The 33-year-old Padilla is 6-4 with a 3.96 ERA in 15 starts this year.
8/19/2010 Justin Upton, RF (Ari) Upton ended a five-game hitles streak Wednesday, going 1 for 5.

Analysis: Upton drove in two runs and scored. He also struck out twice. He was 0 for 19 the previous five games with six strikeouts. His batting average had dropped from .282 on Aug. 7 to .265 on Tuesday.
8/19/2010 Edinson Volquez, SP (Cin) Volquez struggled in a start against Arizona on Wednesday but would not factor as the Reds still won.

Analysis: Volquez gave up five runs and six hits in 4 2-3 innings. He hadn't allowed more than a run in any of his previous three starts. Volquez is 3-1 with a 4.98 ERA.
8/19/2010 Jay Bruce, RF (Cin) Bruce went 4 for 5 with three runs scored in a win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Analysis: Bruce hit a triple and a home run, driving in two runs. He was 2 for 10 in his previous three games. Bruce is hitting .265 this season with 12 home runs and 48 RBIs.
8/19/2010 Clayton Kershaw, SP (LAD) Kershaw pitched seven scoreless innings in a win over Colorado on Wednesday.

Analysis: Kershaw improved to 11-8 and lowered his ERA to 3.03. He was winless in his previous three starts.
8/19/2010 Carlos Gonzalez, LF (Col) Gonzalez suffered a right knee contusion in Colorado's game Wednesday.

Analysis: Gonzalez left the contest in the sixth inning, but it doesn't appear to be serious. That's good news for the Rockies, who he is hitting .318 with.
8/19/2010 Ross Ohlendorf, SP (Pit) Ohlendorf pitched eight innings against Florida on Wednesday, but took the loss.

Analysis: He gave up three runs but only got two runs of support. It was another frustrating outing for Ohlendorf who pitched 6 2-3 scoreless innings against Houston in his previous start but did not receive a decision in the team loss. He is 0-4 with a 3.10 ERA in his last eight starts, during which he's received nine support runs.
8/19/2010 Hanley Ramirez, SS (Fla) Johnson gave up two runs in eight innings of a win over the Pirates on Wednesday.

Analysis: Ramirez improved to 11-5. He was coming off one of his worst starts of the season after giving up six runs in 3 2-3 innings of a loss to Cincinnati last week.
8/19/2010 Dustin Pedroia, 2B (Bos) Pedroia was scratched from the lineup for Thursday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels with a sore left foot.

Analysis: The 2008 AL MVP missed 44 games after he was placed on the disabled list on June 26 with a broken bone in his foot. He was activated Tuesday and played the last two games, going 1 for 7 with a single and a walk. Pedroia said he didn't expect to be able to go all out for the remainder of the season. "It's kind of impossible to come back and play 43 straight games," he said. "It's pretty sore in the area I broke it."
8/19/2010 Rod Barajas, C (NYM) The New York Mets have activated Barajas from the 15-day disabled list.

Analysis: The 34-year-old Barajas had been on the DL since July 27 with a strained left oblique. He was in the lineup against the Houston Astros on Thursday night. Barajas is hitting .228 with 12 homers and 34 RBIs in 73 games this season.
8/19/2010 Alberto Callaspo, 3B (LAA) Callaspo hit a three-run homer in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to Boston.

Analysis: Callaspo is batting .308 in 22 games since being acquired from Kansas City.

Analysis: Martinez is batting .389 during a five-game home hitting streak.

Analysis: Scott is batting .365 with five homers and 13 RBIs this month.
8/19/2010 Matt Tuiasosopo, SS (Sea) Tuiasosopo extended his unlikely power surge with a three-run homer, and the Mariners beat the Baltimore Orioles 6-5 Wednesday night for their season-high fourth straight series win.

Analysis: Tuiasosopo is 3 for 8 with two homers and seven RBIs in the last two games.
8/19/2010 Fred Lewis, LF (Tor) Lewis was 2 for 4 with a season high-tying three RBIs in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Oakland.

Analysis: Lewis is batting .273 with eight homers against right-handers. He is hitting .262 with no homers against left-handers.
