U of A Hospital emergency doctors detail ER horrors

Alberta will add extra hospitals beds to help alleviate crowded emergency wards.

The cases seem endless: A patient having a seizure in the waiting room or a tonsil abscess drained in public. A patient with spine fractures waits six hours on a spine board. A patient dying after a heart attack while being transferred to a bed. Patients with strokes, cancer, drug overdoses, broken bones, perforated uteruses, all waiting too long for care, some receiving intimate treatment in hallways, others leaving hospital with chest pain because they refuse to wait longer.
