Next Step Welcomes New FLO Coordinator at Lee HS

Ms. Fallon McAfee, a recent graduate of the University of Houston, will serve as Lee High School's FLO Coordinator in the 2010 - 2011 school year. Welcome Ms. McAfee. With the support of Lee's new principal Xotichl Rodriguez-Davila and the Lee faculty, Ms. McAfee will lead students to apply and participate in top college- and career- prep programs locally, nationally, and internationally. Next Step will continue to be instrumental in supporting Ms. McAfee, Lee students, and the life-changing possibilities that are FLOs.

2009 - 2010 Lee Next Step Fund's Biggest Year Yet!

On July 31, our 09-10 fiscal year closed. Thanks to great supporters, Lee Next Step pulled in over $70,000 this year -- over 85% of which went directly to putting students into college and career-prep learning programs across the country and even internationally. It's clear - the community realizes the importance of our mission and students are benefiting as a result. More updates will be coming soon about our organization's strategic direction moving forward, financial goals, and the continued need for your help.

Are you a Lee Alum?

We'd love to hear from you!LeeOldPic

Lee High School is a Houston high school legacy. Founded in 1962, Lee is the alma mater of a large and dynamic group of citizens across our city, state, and country. While the "Lee today" is drastically different from the Robert E. Lee that began years ago, our commitment to excellence hasn't waivered. Our hope is that all Lee alumni, regardless of graduation year, encounter success in their own lives and contribute to the future success of generations to come.

If you are a Lee Alum and would like to find out ways that you can support the Lee Next Step Fund or simply connect with other Lee Alum doing so, please contact us.

Why our work is so important...

Approximately 50 percent of students in low-income communities will not graduate from high school by the time they're 18 years old 1.

----------

Those who do graduate will perform on average at an eighth-grade level 2.

----------

Of the 13 million children growing up in poverty, only 1 in 10 will graduate from college 3.

Lee High School in southwest Houston serves the highest percentage of students in Texas that are economically-disadvantaged, at-risk, and English language learners. Every school year and every day are critical for Lee students to learn the knowledge, skills, and habits they need to defy the odds described above, and encounter success in high school and beyond.

The Lee Next Step Fund works to connect these students to life-changing learning experiences that challenge their minds and build their futures for success, all while they are still in high school. You can help us.
