Capitol Fax: Dold “not exactly up front” about abortion

October 25th, 2010 | Permalink | No Comments »

Excerpt:

* And that brings us to the 10th Congressional District race. A Tribune reported rightly noted recently that Republican Bob Dold was not exactly up front about his stand on abortion during the primary

In the 10th Congressional District, the latest Democratic ad ties Republican Robert Dold to a group that opposes abortion rights. The ad ends with the tagline, “Too extreme for Illinois.”

After being somewhat cagey on the issue during the GOP primary, Dold has said he supports abortion rights, but doesn’t want tax dollars spent on it and wants minors to get the consent of a parent or judge before getting one. Dold was recommended by the Illinois Federation for Right to Life in the Republican primary, but the group pointed out that Dold doesn’t oppose abortion

Major Endorsements

October 22nd, 2010 | Permalink | No Comments »

We are telling all of our friends and family why they should vote for Dan. But sometimes it’s nice to hear what trusted, independent organizations (many of whom previously endorsed Mark Kirk and crossed over!) have to say too.

Chicago Sun-Times

“Seals… has the range of experience, intellectual depth and principled convictions to be a remarkably effective freshman member of Congress … Seals mirrors [the 10th District] demographic, being pro-choice, pro-business and pro-Israel.”

“Dold seems to fall back on the usual Republican talking points, some utterly baseless.”

Daily Herald

“The Democrat doesn’t hesitate to offer reasonable and well-reasoned criticisms of his party and his president. Seals is the stronger fit for this historically independent district and wins our support.”

Pioneer Press

“[Seals] emphasizes supporting tax policies and strategies that would allow small businesses to be the main spur of job growth rather than the government…his refusal to move Social Security funds into private accounts mark him as the candidate more seriously committed to lessening the deficit.” Read more »

Pioneer Press endorses Dan Seals for Congress

October 21st, 2010 | Permalink | No Comments »

The 10th Congressional District has become a focal point nationally as one of the few Congressional districts this year where a Democratic candidate has a reasonable shot of flipping a Republican seat.

[. . .]

Seals, a Wilmette consultant, has staked out some independence from the Obama Administration’s positions, most notably in opposing the Afghanistan “surge.” He also emphasizes supporting tax policies and strategies that would allow small businesses to be the main spur of job growth rather than the government. But he recognizes that creating jobs should be the focal point of the recovery strategy.

Fact Check: Dold Deliberately Misleads Voters in New TV Ad

October 20th, 2010 | Permalink | No Comments »

DEERFIELD, IL – Today, Democratic Congressional Candidate Dan Seals called out the blatant misrepresentations presented by Republican Bob Dold in his new attack ad.

“Bob Dold clearly changes his own positions frequently, but he can’t change Dan’s,” said Seals campaign Communications Director Aviva Gibbs.  ”Dan Seals has consistently fought for keeping taxes low, creating jobs, and reducing spending without compromising our values. With less than two weeks left, Bob Dold has resorted to deliberately misleading voters with Washington talking points as if the facts don’t exist.”

In their strong endorsement of Dan Seals, the Chicago Sun-Times cited his “range of experience, intellectual depth, and principled convictions,” while pointing to Dold’s reliance on the “usual Republican talking points, some utterly baseless.” (Chicago Sun-Times, 10/3/2010) Read more »

Faces of the Tea Party Movement – October 15, 2010

Excerpt:

Robert Dold (Ill. 10) embraced the Tea Party in the primary, but was reported to have asked a Tea Party group to call him a “moderate” in its voter guide — now that he is trying to win a general election in a moderate district.

(Dold also appears in the article’s “Privatize It” section as a candidate who favors “partly privatizing or phasing out Social Security and/or Medicare.”)
