Horsforth was once described as the largest village in England and has somehow managed to retain some of its village like identity, character and sense of community. The Museum aims to reflect this heritage in its interesting exhibits which are drawn from all aspects of life in and around Horsforth and have a great nostalgia and educational value. The Museum, which opened to the public in July 1998, is situated at The Green in the heart of the old village.
Horsforth Village Historical Society:
This society began in 1983 when a group of interested people, attending a series of lectures on local history, began to look for a venue to open a museum. The society is dedicated to research; much of which is published in booklet form or as part of a series of local history guides. Meetings are held every 3rd Tuesday of the month and visiting speakers give talks and slide shows of historical interest. Annual outings are organised and a quarterly newsletter is produced for the Friends. Society members may volunteer to help with the running of the Museum and its fund raising activities like coffee mornings which take place on the last Saturday of every month. To join, enquire at the Museum.
