Five Virtualised Data Centres Deliver Cloud Computing: Cisco Network Is the Platform for ITricity's 'on Demand' Computing Services in Holland

Cloud computing enables effective virtualization of offices and enables them to provide for the needs of the clients on time and effectively. This case study tries to understand the cloud computing possibilities provided by iTricity. iTricity was derived from its parent company Glidepath on 1 January, 2008. A wide range of solutions comprising server, storage and network solutions was the core aim of iTricity. Along with these solutions, the company also provided a strong Virtual Private Network and good processor storage capacity. iTricity believes that the basic aim of cloud computing was to help small and large companies build their own IT infrastructure. As a result, a new cloud computing system was implemented that had five data centers. The strategy adopted by iTricity was similar to that of Cisco. It emphasized on consolidation, virtualization and automation. This helped in reduction of costs and simplification of tasks for the company. Employing second generation data centers facilitated high flexibility and competitive advantage over others. Results thus generated indicate a 25% to 30% increase in the efficiency of system processes for iTricity. Customer service has also improved significantly since supply can be made available immediately, depending on the demand. A straightforward billing system is another advantage offered by this initiative. In addition, customers are now required to pay only for the services that they avail.

Where Does the Cloud Fit Into My Information Management Strategy

Comedian George Carlin used to do a funny bit about stuff. He used to say, "All I want is a place for my stuff." But when it comes to business information, the "stuff" of enterprise, how and where you put your stuff is often a complex, convoluted, time consuming, expensive, and risky process.

Solving the information management challenge can also feel like playing chess in three dimensions. In one dimension, you have information ranging from physical or paper records and tapes to digital from PCs, laptops, mobile devices, app servers, files, emails, SharePoint, and everything in between. In another dimension, you have the issues of regulatory compliance, legal discovery, and other externally-driven factors. And, in yet a third dimension, you have the challenge of process and how to physically manage all information where it resides (e.g. physical, edge devices, on-premise infrastructure, etc.) in a way that is reliable, secure, and discoverable so your stuff is safe and you can actually find it when it's needed.

Go, Set, Ready, Repeat: Lessons Learned for Successful Data Integration

If one doesn't have time to do it right, does one have time to do it again? We've all heard the maxim, yet too many data-related projects continue to build independent silos without common standards or reuse. And again and again, organizations are faced with integration challenges that cost time, money, and wasted effort. The key issues are that over time, there is degeneration in establishing data modeling standards and agreement regarding common business data definitions. This has led to repeated failed attempts to integrate data for enterprise objectives, resulting from the pattern of "Dumping" data sets into a single repository prior to understanding their contents.
