Lonely Planet has named Southwest Western Australia and New Zealand as two of the world’s top destinations to visit next year in LONELY PLANET’S BEST IN TRAVEL 2010, published today.
This is Lonely Planet’s fifth eagerly-awaited annual collection of the best places to go and the best things to do around the world for the year ahead.
As one of the Top 10 Regions for 2010, Southwest Western Australia “offers variety in spades,” Lonely Planet’s book says. “While word is out about the southwest, distance still dissuades many Aussie eastcoasters – take the opportunity to make it here before they do!” Other regions to make the list are Alsace, Bali, Fernando de Noronha, Goa, Koh Kong Conservation Corridor, Lake Baikal, Oaxaca, Southern Africa and The Lake District.
New Zealand is one of Lonely Planet’s Top 10 Countries for next year. The book enthuses, “NZ’s checklist of essential experiences remains as strong as ever. Spectacular landscapes … a heart pinch of lens-friendly wildlife, proud Maori culture, and fine food and drink … and don’t forget your adrenaline fix.” El Salvador, Germany, Greece, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, Portugal, Suriname, and the USA complete the book’s Top Countries list.
This new edition of BEST IN TRAVEL also reveals why Abu Dhabi, Charleston, Cork, Cuenca, Istanbul, Kyoto, Lecce, Sarajevo, Singapore and Vancouver have been selected as the Top 10 Cities to visit next year.
Drawing on the knowledge and passion of Lonely Planet’s staff, authors and community, BEST IN TRAVEL 2010 showcases a year’s worth of inspiration to take travellers out of the ordinary and into some unforgettable experiences. Other highlights include:
✪ Top Travel Lists of the best experiences for the year ahead, from wildlife-watching in South Africa to catching a space flight launched from the Mojave Desert. Interested in rubbing shoulders with thousands of locals running a marathon? Explore the options in the “Magical Marathons” list.
