Eagles Trade For Browns Running Back Jerome Harrison

harrisonIn a very uncharacteristic move the Eagles announced that they have traded running back Mike Bell to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for running back Jerome Harrison. The connection of Tom Heckert in Cleveland and Andy Reid’s relationship with Mike Holmgren should be enough to make me not surprised that this deal went down so quickly, but I can’t help but be caught off guard by this move.

Brodrick Bunkley Injury Not As Serious As First Reported

eagle logoOne day after Andy Reid announced that he would probably be lost for the season, defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley apparently has a shot to play after all. Bunkley’s injury is now being termed an elbow sprain. Bunkley’s elbow has swelling, but his arm is strong and the pain is at least manageable. Still, Reid said it would be a “stretch” for Bunkley to get in this week’s game against the Falcons. Rookie Jeff Owens, who announced yesterday via his twitter account that he would be suiting up this Sunday, will get practice time this week and will be activated from the practice squad if Bunkley is unable to go.

Brodrick Bunkley Likely Out For The Season; Other Injury News

bunkleyDefensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley, who has started every game for the Eagles the last two seasons, will likely become the third starting player to be out for the season due to injury. Coach Andy Reid reported that Bunkley will indeed need surgery to repair ligament damage in his left elbow. Seventh round draft pick, defensive tackle, Jeff Owens has already been activated from the Eagles practice squad to replace Bunkley on the roster.

Kevin Kolb, LeSean McCoy Show Their Mettle

kolb 2With a full week to prepare, Kevin Kolb showed everybody watching, especially Andy Reid, exactly what we were told we would be getting from him before the season started. We’ve covered this tirelessly here, Kolb was unfairly taken out of the starting quarterback position, replaced by Mike Vick. Vick went on to play better, therefore keeping the job. Vick then gets injured and Kolb is once again thrust into the spotlight. The big question going into Sunday night’s contest in San Francisco was, how would Kolb respond?

Kolb Is Playing For His Career

kkolbAs unfair as it was that Kevin Kolb lost his starting job, and it was unfair, the fact remains that Mike Vick performed better than Kolb did when called upon. Now fate has stepped in. Vick will be out for, at least, this week and Kolb has been handed the reigns once again. This is an opportunity that he can not afford to let slip through his fingers. He needs to step up and show that he can be a starting quarterback in the NFL this Sunday night. If he doesn’t rise to the occasion, he could cost himself his entire career, whether that career continues here or elsewhere.

Reid: “I Goofed”

The big story yesterday was supposed to be the return of Donovan McNabb to Philadelphia and the unspeakable things that the vulgar, neanderthal fan base were going to yell at him. Funny how you won’t hear the Trent Dilfers and Cris Carters of the world say they were dead wrong on that call. It was supposed to be about Mike Vick taking over Donovan’s old team and rising above, ok well that didn’t happen either. Maybe the story was how Donovan was going to play sop well that he would make the Eagles heirarchy rue the day that they sent him packing. That didn’t happen either. After a good first half, Donovan was, well, Donovan in the second half. Instead, the story was the total ineptitude of the Eagles coaching staff.

Donovan Deserves To Be Cheered

We are merely days away from one of the most anticipated returns of a former sports star to this city. Donovan McNabb will, as we all know, be leading his Washington Redskins into the Linc on Sunday against the team he led for the last 11 years. When asked earlier this week on how he thought he would be received by the fans, he responded that he felt he would be cheered much more than booed. Now, I don’t know if that is exactly the answer I would have given, many could take that as a challenge to boo louder, however, McNabb is correct in his assertion. His shortcomings aside, the man who is widely considered as the greatest quarterback in the franchise’s history, deserves your applause.

Two Eagles Win Monthly Honors

Jets Eagles FootballallenThe NFL announced it’s monthly awards today and two Eagles were bestowed with some of the honors. To absolutely nobody’s surprise, Michael Vick was named NFC offensive player of the month for his exploits in September. The Eagles quarterback, in two and a half games, completed 54 of 89 passes (60.7 pct) for 750 yards, throwing six touchdowns and zero interceptions. Vick also ran 23 times for 170 yards and one score. Also, free safety Nate Allen was named NFC defensive rookie of the month. Allen had two interceptions and 19 tackles in three games.

Vick Continues To Make Reid Look Good

The defense was exponentially improved, the special teams played their best game to date this season but the only thing on the minds of Eagles fans today is that Michael Vick was, once again, incredibly impressive in the Birds 28-3 shellacking of the Jacksonville Jaguars. I’m not even going to waste my time pointing out that Vick’s two starts have come against, arguably, the two worst teams in football and that we should all temper our excitement. I will, however, point out that Vick was brilliant yesterday on the field going 17 for 31 for 291 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air and ran for a score himself. His quarterback rating was over 100 for the third week in a row. The decision made by Reid, as unfair as it was, was seemingly the correct one for the team on the field. There is a long way to go in the season though so let’s enjoy this one now and move on.
