Report: Jericho movie in development
You can't die yet!

Set your phasers to "head-exploding." Jericho's rabid fan base may have scored themselves another victory. According to a report from IF Magazine, executive producer Jon Turtletaub has confirmed that he is developing a Jericho movie.

"We're developing a feature for Jericho," Turteltaub told IF. "It would not require you to have seen the TV show, but it get into life after an event like this on a national scale. It would be the bigger, full on American version of what’s going on beyond the town in Jericho."

Jericho was one of the great television stories of 2007, becoming un-canceled after irate fans planned a clever protest--something that doesn't happen often in this day and age. Unfortunately, the victory was short-lived and the show was canceled after a short second season.

Today's news couldn't come sooner for Jericho fans, who have been eagerly awaiting further word of the future of the drama. But before any of you start camping out at the local movie theater, know this: the key word is "developing."

Turtletaub's comments could simply mean he's pondering the idea and thinking of scenarios for the movie. At best, he's in discussions with other Jericho producers and talking to potential studios. Either way, it's too early to start accepting a Jericho movie as reality.

Jericho (the television series) followed the survivors of a nuclear attack on the U.S. The show starred Skeet Ulrich, Lennie James, and Pamela Reed.

Exciting news for Jericho fans, but do you think this is a good idea?

  • I think that it is a great idea to have a movie for the show. I LOVE the show and always have. Firefly did awesome when a movie was made after one season of the show, it is still a series that I really miss. I think that it would be cool if there were other Deaf people in the movie, and I regret Bonnie dieing like everyone else that watched the series, but she went out great. When you go into a show like this you walk in knowing that your character could die at any moment. The bad guys don't care if you are Deaf or not.. Bonnie died doing what she believed was right, protecting someone that she loved. I personally know a lot of Deaf people that didn't stop watching the show after it happened. It goes both ways. She wasn't killed off in the show because she was Deaf, she killed off because she was a major part of the show, someone who everyone knew and loved in the town... Someone that people in the town would fight the government for BECAUSE it was so wrong that she was murdered. To me that, and before it happened, it made the character special beyond words, and no one will ever forget her.

  • I think it's a great idea! You know what another great idea would be? To have another Deaf character in the movie. The Deaf are very proud of ASL, and will back a show until it's end if it features a Deaf character. That is, unless they are killed off, even in a blaze of glory like Bonnie. Every single Deaf person I talked to has both seen the show, and stopped watching after they killed off Bonnie.

  • I thought a movie would be a good resolution of the story after season 2. Since that ended with a civil war about to break out. It would be hard to do that justice on TV budgets. Besides the filmic resolution of a TV series worked well for Firefly so it shouldn't disappoint the fans. Even though I'm still hoping for a full TV season. :)

  • Can't wait but the question is if its a tv-movie or if it comes to a cinema near you...

  • Cool! I can't wait for this.

  • Sweet! I can't wait, let's hope they keep the same cast.

  • Good god, wasn't a few more episodes enough? Sheesh.

  • Awesometastic!

  • I don't watch that much Tv nor by Tv shows on dvd.. I can't stand CSI or thous kinds of shows.. They bore me.. But Jericho keeps me on my seat its one the best shows i have seen sins The Soprano's i own all the box sets.. I can't believe Jericho got bad ratings who is rating this anyway.. I would be happy with a movie but it would be better if they just pick up where they left off.. Grow Some Balls And Bring It Back!

  • sounds good, but wish they would just get their act together and get the show back on the air.

  • I miss me some Jericho! :(

  • Sounds good - but would be more excited if the movie would be based on the TV characters. This sounds as if the movie would cover more places/characters. I want to see Mimi and Stanley!

  • Great news! Jericho was a wonderful show.

  • Great idea! There is so much more to tell in this story.

  • Oh yeah... I think this is an awesome idea! Why would you not want to continue this story?! I personally can't wait until it hits the big screen!!!

  • Loved Jericho, . . I didn't start watching until wonderful people rescued it the 1st time. It was engaging both in storytelling and cast, but that being said, it was rushed through to an early death, and I'm not sure for myself that a movie could rescue it from the people and pacing it lost. Jericho could have run for a long time on just the initial: what happened, are we alone, if not are we better off alone, who did what to whom mystery and showcasing that small towns can show the best of humanity and the worst without getting lost in big city materialism or going mad max. I guess I'm saying, for me, how would one recapture those oh my god moments and touching glad/sad moments in a tragedy but not feel broken because a corporate network killed it, not once but twice over it's core audience's objections?? Would a movie do as well/poorly as the FireFly movie??? If Jericho were comic books, I'd love the series to come back prior to the end of season 1 and start fresh with even pacing, bring back some of the dead and run for maybe 2 or 3 years more, . . but that's just peanuts of me.

  • I would love to see this as a contiuation of the series. If we don't get the majority of the cast back then it won't be worth much, IMO. But we got to have Lennie James back as Robert Hawkins. THAT IS A MUST!!! Either way this is interesting news.

  • "It would be the bigger, full on American version of what’s going on beyond the town in Jericho." Um, the show was called Jericho for a reason. We're interested in the folks there and what happened once they delivered the information to Texas (?). As long as we can still have the full cast, I'm good! Go Robert!! :-)

  • If it's about the folk of Jericho... well then it's always a good idea

  • I'm so happy! Can't wait for this to come true. It was and still IS the best TV show made thus far and it deserves another chance. :)

  • I'd love to see this happen as well. I think their is so much more story to tell. Jon stated that the cast would return, so for the most part, I'd imagine the main charactors would return. I'd welcome the view "outside" of Jericho, to see how other parts of the country dealt with the disaster, as they origionaly planned to do that, had the show continued. But I'd still like to see "Jericho" and it's great cast of charactors have a significant role in the movie as well. I'm all for it, I hope it becomes a reality.

  • I loved the series. I wish more people would have watched it. I'd love to have them make a follow up movie about the next civil war. But would I really want to see a movie that just re-hashed what happened in Jericho? Would anyone who didn't watch Jericho watch a movie that picked up where Jericho left off?

  • jericho was great, lets hope for a movie ^^

  • Got to have same people and explain what happened in rest of America. If it does this, should be great!!

  • AWESOME PLZZZZ HURRY UP

  • Wow!! I thought it had finally lost steam but very happy this is happening!! :)

  • Holy shait. Great news! Jericho rulezzz

  • Hell yeah!!!

  • AWESOME!!! I have something to look forward to in the movies now. This is great news.

  • GREAT IDEA! The show I don't think could have survived in TV format for long. People would have not had the patience, hence why our fan base did not continue to grow. Serialized shows are okay in moderation and we have Lost, 24, and Heroes once we lose one of those we don't need another one.

  • I think this could work actually! People will see this film, and so will I. But I would rather see the film countinue where the show ended, or that the film is more attached to the show then he explains.

  • I loved Jericho and I'd love to think this movie will come about - but if it's not centred around Jericho and what happens there, then can it be called Jericho? I'd rather the movie just continued in some way from where the last ep left off.

  • I really hope this can happen

  • yes!!!! i really hope it happens!!!!

  • I'm a bit sceptical about this, not that a movie may come some day, but the angle he is producing on it. Why not make it a continue on the series, instead of making it a pan-american view of the disaster? One could think that it is to draw a bigger audience, but on the other hand, if the movie plays well, a whole bunch more would go out and get the series on DVD... something to think about huh?

  • I can't believe this! The best news I've heard in a LONG time :) I really hope this happens because this was the best show to come along for a long time. Can't wait to see what happens!

  • I'd definitely want to see this, but only with the same actors, as someone already mentioned.

  • Heck yeah it is a good idea! I loved this show. I hope it happens because frankly the "end" of the series wasn't enough.

  • I would love it, but only when they use the actors from the tv series.

  • I would like to see a Jericho movie

  • It would be great...but I'll believe it when I see it.

  • This would be interesting.

  • party boosh!

  • Good news!

  • and theres rerun of the show on sundays on the cw

  • Love it, love it. Can't wait for it to change status from "developing" to "post-production."

  • Yes!!! I hope the movie happens.

  • Very exciting news!!! Will be keeping my fingers crossed that it happens and Jericho can live on!!! Best show on TV!!

  • Thats great news!

  • Love Jericho, great news!!
