A Place to Sit is located along the river west of the 13th Street Bridge (Emmber Lane) and north of Canal St., Milwaukee, WI

About the artist

The high-back chairs of A Place to Sit, martin's first public sculpture, honor the spirit and people of Wisconsin's American Indian tribes. In their tradition of cooperating with others to share in the bounty of the Menomonee Valley, all are invited to gather and share in the rich history and promising future of this area.

kathryn e. martin is an instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), and the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) where she teaches to Foundation and Pre-Art students. She received a BFA in Sculpture and Art History from MIAD, and an MA and MFA from UWM in InterMedia Studies. She has exhibited extensively, in solo and group shows throughout the Midwest.

martin was selected for this installation through a Request for Proposal and juried process by the Art Committee of the Friends of the Hank Aaron State Trail.
