Human Rights
Human Rights Watch is an independent, nongovernmental organization, that investigates and exposes human rights violations and hold abusers accountable. It challenges governments and those who hold power to end abusive practices and respect international human rights law. Amnesty International is a worldwide campaigning movement that works to promote all the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international standards. In particular, Amnesty International campaigns to free all prisoners of conscience; ensure fair and prompt trials for political prisoners; abolish the death penalty, torture and other cruel treatment of prisoners; end political killings and "disappearances"; and oppose human rights abuses by opposition groups.
  

The Human Rights Center assists human rights advocates, monitors, students, and educators through five primary programs:

  • Applied Research to assist human rights advocates and activists in improving the effectiveness of their work;
  • Educational Tools through the development of UN human rights monitoring and training manuals, the Human Rights Education Series, and human rights passports;
  • Field and Training Opportunities through fellowship programs, internships, university courses, and volunteer trainings;
  • Human Rights On-line through the University of Minnesota Human Rights Library and Resource Center;

Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights aims to ensure the practical implementation of universally recognized human rights norms. It is committed to promulgating the 1948 UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and strengthening the United Nations human rights program and providing relevant support UN treaty monitoring and related bodies.
