New Comic! "Not Invented Here"!
Sunday, September 20, 2009
Hi guys! Long time no anything! I promised I'd let you know when I started another project, and if Paul Southworth is known for anything, it's following through on his promises. Haha, actually no, that's not true at all. I'm a huge jerk! But still! If you're around, and you're interested, point your internet hot rod over to http://www.notinventedhere.com !
The strip is called "Not Invented Here", and it's about two guys toiling day and night in the software industry. It's my first collaboration, with Bill Barnes of the library comic "Unshelved", and I hope you like it! And to celebrate and introduce Bill's readers to these new characters, I drew all of this week's "Unshelved" strips! WHEW... workin' hard!
You might also be interested in another project I've been doing for a couple of months, a gaming panel comic over at Crispy Gamer called "You Are Dead". It's exactly as crude and juvenile as it sounds.
"Not Invented Here" runs Monday through Thursday, "You Are Dead" publishes on Wednesdays. Thanks for sticking around, guys! Hope you dig the new stuff. Drop me a line and let me know what's bouncing around your skulls.

Well, that's it then. Now you know what happens. Yeah, it's a little mushy (in more ways than one), but it's the right ending. Funny story: when I initially decided to end Ugly Hill, I was going to have all the characters come to the very precipice of happiness... then have the entire town crushed by a rogue meteor. True story! That certainly would have fit with the theme of the strip over the last 3+ years, but I just couldn't do it. It wasn't fair to the readers who have come to care about the characters, and it wasn't fair to me. Getting Hastings and Hope together and giving them a baby was something I've wanted to do for a long time, and even though it was a lot more work, I would have regretted not doing it.
I want to thank everyone for the support and kind words over the years, and especially during the last month. It's been crazy-bananas the amount of kind words I've been fielding since I announced the end of the strip. If I haven't gotten back to you, it's not because I don't care, but because I'm suffocating under a mountain of good will. I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. The best thing for me is that you actually seem to care about what happens to the characters, which what I always hope to achieve.
But hey! What's next, you ask? I have an answer for that: I'm not really sure! I didn't say it was a good answer. Well, that's not entirely true. I do have some ideas, but I can't tell you much about them. I will say that one of them is a collaborative project with someone you probably know. If you want any more out of me, you'll have to sign up here. It's just a simple mailing list my friend Bill Barnes of Unshelved fame set up for me to let you guys know when I'm coming out with any new projects. I promise not to spam you, unless you like that sort of thing... you freak. And if you don't want to do that, you could always follow me on Twitter for updates. Either way, I hope you'll stick around for the next thing.
I'm not really sure what to say to close this out, so I'll just leave you with this great drawing Brian Prindiville sent me this morning. Thank you, Brain, and thanks to everyone for reading Ugly Hill!
Think this is the end...?
