GUANGZHOU, China – The 16th Asian Games named three-time Olympic Games Sportscaster Jeff Ruffolo to host Radio Guangdong’s first all-English sports radio talk show dedicated to the Games.
The Asian Games are the second largest sports event in the world after the Summer Olympic Games.
Airing each weekend on Radio Guangdong, Asian Games Live! will focus on the new development and sports activities coming to Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta before and during The 16th Asian Games which begins November 12.
Ruffolo, formerly a sportscaster for Westwood One in the USA, was a member of its broadcast team that provided 24-hour coverage of the 1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Summer Olympics.
He began his radio career in 1991 as commentator for Brigham Young University Women’s Volleyball on 1400 KSRR-AM in Orem, Utah, and became play-by-play commentator for the BYU’s men’s and women’s volleyball teams in 1992. Also in 1992, Ruffolo began an eight- year relationship with the Rainbow Sports Radio Network in Honolulu, and has called more than 300 NCAA Men’s and Wahine Volleyball matches for the University of Hawaii, including Western Athletic Conference and NCAA Championship matches.
In 1993, Ruffolo formed one of the world’s first Internet radio networks for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation which includes the men’s volleyball teams of UCLA, USC, Long Beach State, San Diego State and Stanford. With Los Angeles-based Cable Radio Network as its flagship and 50,000 watt AM radio affiliates in Las Vegas and Window Rock, Arizona, more than 500 sports and news websites around the world were linked to the network and live NCAA Volleyball programming.
Having 30-year sales and marketing portfolio with a client roster that included The Rolling Stones, Phil Collins & Genesis and The Los Angeles Lakers, Ruffolo has been successful in developing and executing innovative strategies that expand brand awareness and sponsor profitability and for more than 10 years owned and operated his own public relations/marketing company based in Southern California. He is past president and chairman emeritus for the Travel and Tourism Marketing Association, a Los Angeles-based, non-profit 501(c)6 organization devoted to providing a forum for the exchange of ideas and information among professionals from diverse tourism industry sectors.
Ruffolo served as Senior Expert to the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games (BOCOG) of the XXIX Olympiad and for two years as sole American on the Chinese senior management staff, he provided marketing, sponsorship and media/communication expertise as well as serving as spokesman for the Beijing Olympic Games to the international media. He managed a team responsible for all global press relations and was named a “Model Worker” by the Chinese Government for his management training of BOCOG staff.
