Police union calls for fight against child trafficking

afrol News, 2 March - The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) of South Africa has called on all citizens to help up-root any pockets of child trafficking that may be associated with the hosting of FIFA 2010 World Cup in the country.

“We have noted these negative developments in our country and we adjure our Police Officers to expose this modern-day-slavery and barbarism. We are calling upon all our officers in all ports of entry in the country to arrest these lunatics and bring them to justice,” said POPCRU in a statement.

The union further pointed out that an injustice meted against children is an injustice meted against humanity, calling for an immediate end to the crimes against children.

“What we have negated to confront are owners of brothels who house young people and men of improper character continues to kill our society with the contravention of statutory rapes against them. We must stop this!” said the union statement.

“POPCRU invites Faith-Based Organizations to spread this gospel in all our services and/or sessions to stop this carnage. This sub-human and gruesome practice must be abolished by acting against it. The family fabric is a cornerstone of a national fabric and we cannot afford to compromise it!” the statement concluded.
