Veteran pols will head rookie class
“We’ve been able to balance the budget. That required making tough choices,” said Scott Tipton, a Colorado state representative running against Rep. John Salazar, describing how he was able to keep his Native American pottery business from going under during the recession. “That mentality is in dire need in Washington right now.”
That’s the kind of talk that makes Boehner hopeful that he’ll have a group willing to get wonky on budgets and legislation and not just take to the House floor for C-SPAN sound bites.

“The biggest thing that stands out to me is how many of our new members are ready, willing and able to make tough choices. Like me, these guys — and women — aren’t professional politicians. They’re small-business people and veterans. ... People who looked up at what was happening to their country and said, ‘Stop!’” Boehner said in an e-mailed response to questions from POLITICO. “I think you’re going to see a burst of energy and, frankly, boldness that is going to be pretty stunning. That’s my goal, anyway.”
“These are people who really are not coming to further the ways of old,” said House Minority Whip Eric Cantor. “They’re not about pork-barrel spending or maintaining the status quo. They’re about trying to drive success for this country and understanding that what has made this country prosperous is producing an environment that allows people to achieve success. ... That influence will be major in terms of what kind of action you’ll see in a Republican-led House.”
Many of the new lawmakers have enjoyed the backing of the tea party movement but are ambivalent about actually labeling themselves “tea partiers,” with several refusing in interviews to say whether they’d join the tea party caucus chaired by Rep. Michele Bachmann.
“I would never claim to be a tea party candidate,” said Cory Gardner, another Colorado state legislator who has roots in a family farm business and is running against freshman Rep. Betsy Markey. “I don’t think anyone should, because that’s abusing the efforts of the tea party.”
That said, the freshman class will most likely come in believing that it has a clear mandate to cut spending and reduce the size of government.
“I think there are times in history, and we may be in one, where the best thing you can do is to do nothing. In the direction that we are currently going, I expect some gridlock,” said Scott.

The conservatives need to caucus with the Tea Party and the RINOs need to sit down and shut up. They are what helped ruin the republican party. We have too many libs in the dem party as it is.

Sooooo, Mr. "Conservative" You Are Saying That Republican President Eisenhower (Who Built The Interstate Highway System) Is "A RINO?"
The "Rookie Class" Is A Lot Smaller Than You Expected.... US Voters don't read much truth but we aren't that stupid =
5 Years Losing Jobs, 19 Months gaining = on the right track, just need to keep going, "Hands On The Plow"
+ Maybe we also need a "Rich Itch" as Leader Of Our House of Representatives who can say to "Usury $" - "You can't buy me!"
There are several hispanic and black candidates running throughout this country, but the msm doesn't speak or highlight them because they are running as republicans...........of course the democrats think they are the party of minorities. Can you say President Rubio? One day this man will move the democrats biggest voting block to their corner........why do you think the dems fought so hard for Florida? Clinton went so far as to try to get Meek out so Crist (who might as well be a dem) would stand a better chance of defeating Rubio. Can't wait for the results........this is a total referendum on Obama and the voters will make him as inconsequential as possible til we can vote him out in '12........wait for it.
I hope the "seasoned snakes" are forgotten and left unhired.
It would be refreshing seeing 75 or so fresh crews working together to undo the entrenched mob running the place now.
Part of the glamour is dumping the system of tit for tat, I know this lobbyist and this is where you get the free candy.
AND, I hope the new comers sit in the stands and tell the losers how their constituencies want them to vote during November and December.
Not much sense in commenting today but tomorrow will be the defining moments when we all need to contact our representatives in Washington and the State in order to assure them that we will be watching their every move. This election day does not end the involvement of Mainstream America it signifies the beginning of Mainstream America involvement in our great country's political system. Thank you Democrats for scaring Mainstream Americans enough that we have become involved.
What will the Party of BIG LABOR Do?
What will the Party of BIG PHARMA Do?
What will the Party of BIG BANKING Do?
What will the Party of BIG AUTO Do?
What will the Party of BIG UNEMPLOYMENT Do?
Will they keep Pelosi in leadership?
Will they listen to Obama who led them to disaster?
Will they llsten to Obama's teleprompter?
Will they help repeal Obamacare?
Will they help cut wasteful spending?
Will they do what their constituency wants them to do?
The Tea Party drove this election. The Tea Party has the right ideas. the Tea Party represents the "average" american. The Tea Party needs to remember that, without the "unsophisticated", grass roots, no BIG money, Tea Party, .. the dems would have had an very easy election cycle this year .. main stream republicans are NOT what the country is voting for .. the Tea Party IS the reason for the republican party's return from the wilderness. If the republican party is smart .. (no sure thing there) The republican party will pay attention to the Tea Party and adopt the Tea Partys agenda .. a good start would be to vote for Mike Pence as Speaker .. if the republicans want to continue with their "inside D.C.", B.S. .. ..well, ...we picked off a few RINOs this cycle .. RINO hunting will just have to continue well into 2012. We still have a lot to do, today is the first day of a very long walk back to a republican form of government ..
I live in South Carolina and Tim Scott is my hero. Not because he's black, nor because he's a conservative, but because he is honest and a true man of the people. He hasn't the interest of race, party or self in the forefront of his platform - he is an American first, a South Carolinian second and if he were white, black or madras he'd be fine with me. That said, what is meant by the GOP being viewed as "too white and too Southern"? Wasn't James Earl Carter a white Southern democrat? What about William J. Clinton - white, Southern, democrat right? As far as I can gather, the only people that might think this way are blue state urbanites, far leftists and, as usual, dim witted students led around by their noses by untried, has-been profs of liberal arts or social "sciences". Thinking people still vote for a candidate based on his/her past record of political performance and probable future contributions to our country's health, wealth and wellbeing. Party sheep and dimwits will always vote where and for whom they are told, and if 'too white" and "too Southern" are part of their process - they are dim wits indeed.
Hopefully the majority of the new people in Washington will be the leaders we elect to deal with our national and states problems. Hopefully they will have the courage and responsibility to do the job they are being elected to do!
The GOP has held elected Republican Representatives on a tight and threatening rope disallowing any efforts to work with the Democrats in trying to resolve and fix our nations problems. The GOPs number one mission in the past 20 months has been to destroy any credibility and efforts of the Democratic administration. Rather than working with the democrats they have taken every opportunity to sell the American voters on the idea that the Democrats are incapable of doing anything. It has worked, as much due to their efforts as to the lack of the Democrats marketing their accomplishments.
Will the new people be lead by the same GOP mindset that has created havoc in the past 20 months or will the new personalities lead rather than follow. Will they allow Boehner and the GOP to make their decisions for them or will they remember they were sent to Washington to represent the constituents of their states? Will they remember their first responsibility is to America, then to their states and then to their party. Or, will they allow the party to lead them around while they continue their fight for dominance in the next elections?

The Perfect Storm hits DC
Congratulations to our newest members of Congress. We know you will do us proud, gentlemen!
God Bless America!
The newcomers, who I expect to do well as a group, must balance the need to turn the "ship of state" sharply to starboard to get back in the right direction and avoid hitting the rocks and wrecking with the need to get all the help and advice they can from the older hands and, as noted here, use their business and politically honed abilities to get up to speed on the wonky technical issues that don't always make for good sound bites for the uninitiated.
Personally, I hope they get practical, listen to the ordinary people who provide the votes, are not afraid to talk to and work with their counterparts in The Other Party on many issues of common interest that really are not so much "liberal" or "conservative" as shared interests across the socio-economic, ethnic, and politifcal spectrums.
None of my Members of Congress are either new or Democrats. I can remember well when none were Republicans. After 50 years of politics I'm not sure George Washington wasn't right in warning us against permanent parties, but we're stuck with them. Both are coalitions of groups that don't socialize or get along with each other much less the opposition. I'd think of a bigger tent myself as I have never found a party, organization, or leader with whom I could agree 100% and sometimes my religious, economic, and legal education and professional and life experience have convinced me that some leading liberal Democrats were right and too many Republicans wrong on particular issues or bills.
Hopefully the newcomers will listen to their constituents and other knowledgeable people.
