    Introduction

Welcome to our Chinese-English dictionary. We currently have 21,498 simplified (GB) and traditional (Big5) listings in our dictionary.

You can search by using Chinese (GB or Big5 encoding), pinyin, or English. The search results will contain every matching item, even if it is unrelated to the word or phrase you input. If using pinyin, you can narrow your search by using pinyin tones. For instance, "han4 yu3" returns one correct record, while "han yu" returns 15 possible matches. Although you can search using English, this is primarily a Chinese to English dictionary.

    Important points:

  • This dictionary is only for words and short expressions. It will not translate sentences (such as "I love you"), medical terms or proper names. If you want to find out what your name is in Chinese, please use the Chinese Name Tool at the comprehensive MandarinTools website, or find a native speaker who knows something about you.
  • Pin yin must have spaces between syllables. Tone numbers are not required but can help narrow the search. Only Hanyu pinyin works, Wade-Giles and Yale input will not work.
  • Case is not important.
  • The dictionary is not a translator. It will not translate sentences.
  • Make sure your query is spelled correctly.
  • There is no profanity in this dictionary.
