Undergraduate Admissions

Why Choose UNE?

There are lots of reasons to choose the University of New England:

  • Academic Excellence: U.S. News & World Report has recognized UNE as one of the “Best Universities” in the North that offer “a full range of undergraduate and master’s programs." The College of Osteopathic Medicine is known for educational excellence in primary care, geriatrics and osteopathic manipulative medicine.
  • Location: The coastal area of southern Maine has a long history as a popular vacation destination. Enjoying the ocean comes naturally to students at UNE. It's a beautiful, livable part of the country, and the people are friendly and welcoming.

At the Biddeford Campus, students meet the Atlantic Ocean up close and personal. The campus has more than 4,000 feet of ocean frontage.

The Portland Campus is located in the lovely port city of Portland. The Greater Portland area is also one of Northern New England's most important centers of health care. Portland is also only two hours from Boston.
  • A Caring Environment: Both of our campuses are warm, friendly places. You'll notice it in the way other students treat you. You'll notice it in the attitude of your professors--inside and out of class. From day one, you'll know that you're among friends.
  • Everybody Knows Your Name: At UNE students get to know their faculty, and faculty know you. Our faculty/student ratio is 1:17. Your classes will be small, friendly and collegial, as well as demanding.
  • So Much to Do: Like to ski, sail, sing, save stranded seals? You'll have a choice of a wide range of campus clubs, organizations and activities at UNE, all of which offer opportunities to make friends, explore shared interests and develop leadership skills. UNE also offers NCAA Division III varsity athletics competition, as well as a wide range of club sports and intramurals.
  • Resources: Students at UNE find some of the best resources in the nation for studying the natural sciences and health professions. Facilities include the Harold Alfond Center for Health Sciences; the Dental Hygiene Clinic; the Clinical Simulation Program, which uses high-tech human patient simulators for health professions training; and the Marine Science Education and Research Center, which includes our Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center.
  • Study Abroad and International Programs:  Student have a variety of opportunities to study abroad as part of their programs of study.
  • With PatientReal World Experience: UNE academic programs ensure that students have plenty of opportunities for extensive fieldwork, clinical experiences, research and internships through University partnerships with area health care facilities and UNE affiliates.
  • Health Care for Today and Tomorrow: The students, faculty and staff in the health professions embrace a commitment to interdisciplinary health and wellness, and work as partners to continuously advance health care knowledge and skills.
