Atafu

Atafu, Tokelau

Atafu, located 87 km northwest from the atoll of Nukunonu, is the smallest and northernmost of Tokelau's three atolls, measuring up to 5.5 km east to west and up to 6.5 km north to south. There are 42 islets situated around the central lagoon of 17 km² with a combined land area of 3.5 km². The eastern side of the atoll contains the largest landmasses, dominated by two large motu that can be up to 450 m wide. The only inhabited part of the atoll is the village of Atafu, located in the northwest (at top in this image).
